I'm not a doom and gloomer, but we've never learned about investing and have a bunch of cash in a high yield saving account. I want to invest on a valley, not a mountain... Is it dumb to just keep hoarding it and wait for the market to not be super high?

People I saw all around me said they worked as long as they could then fell ill or infirm and never got to enjoy retirement, I said no way so I saved for 30 years (blue collar worker), bought and sold real estate single family, multi family and vacation houses, got a sweet buyout when interest rates were low so our buyout was high plus medical coverage til 65 Medicare. Retired at 53 years young, now 58 own a ranch, travel the country during the winter plus weekend trips in the summer. Look forward to building a house on some land I own, life is good.

I’d be curious to know ways to forestall the decline in fluid processing/skills. I retired from full time teaching last year because it wasn’t a good environment anymore. But I ended up getting a part-time teaching position elsewhere, and I think it’s just the right combination of a bit slower pace but still having to think on my feet (since I’m working with teenagers) every day.

Another HUGE benefit from making SS non-taxable to a LOT of seniors is it will lower their MAGI enough so they won't have to pay an IRMAA on Medicare. That savings could be almost as much as saving the tax on SS!

I just started retirement, and to figure out how much I need to live, I went though the past 5 years I have spent. I figured that is roughly what I need per month, and I can live on it!! Be careful until that is done!! Many people don't do this. Get a financial advisor like this video advises!!! Thanks Dan!!

Say I have $100k position in my IRA that’s now worth $50k, if I convert that to RothIRA, does the $50k increase my income and do I pay tax on that? What happens to my capital loss !

How do they overcome expenses? Hedge fund expenses are not designed to benefit the high net worth. Warren Buffets bet proved that.

I retired as a main caregiver to elderly mother who has passed. Family first. Health is wealth is a priority. Over the years I have been cutting down on unnecessary expenses and looking at ways for energy saving practices. Contributed and donated to flood victims, earthquake victims and orphanages. In the process of downsizing and embrace frugal soft living. Gardening is the current favourite hobby. It brings me a lot of joy. Looking forward to next move and making it cosy, functional and disable friendly as I age to make it easier. It takes focus to think of how one would like to live for the next 20-30 years without burdening anyone. Thanks for your posting. Good points to consider. Getting there slowly and gradually step by step.

Withdrawal rule that with no flexibility makes little sense. RMDs increase every year and inflation and your earnings will mean the withdrawal amount need to be adjusted every year. Those with the most secure income need to worry less about the ups and downs of the stock and bond markets
