Everytime I watch this scene, it's like a large brick is shoved into my mouth. I dont think eveyone has to know that Professor is a transgender because it has little to do with the plot, but this scene is forcing to remind us about it. They can at least change the script where Professor tells she has felt changes in her life without telling she is trnasgender, and still focus mainly on the topic of the mother instead of switching the dialogue for some unrelated lecturing.
