I virtually can't watch this because of how cringe sensitive I am to this; it literally takes the strength of a million stars just to press play, and once I do, I immediately regret all of my actions, I don't think I have even seen the full "official" version because of this. I am borderline allergic to the entire show, LET ALONE this scene. If I had to watch this I would burst into a ball of flaming kerosene, and would immediately implode with the force of 100,000 PSI. The blast radius would be enough to wipe out all of North and South America instantaneously, and would wash over the planet in a tsunami of magma, completely levelling the crust of the Earth in under 24 hours.

That's the problem with asking for representation in a way that suggests it should be required You end up with tokenism and the idea that representation is the same as good writing, leading twords the represented groups being poorly represented by bad writing If you want more trans characters that aren't written poorly the approach trans viewers or readers need to take is "representation is not necessary, I can enjoy a story without it but it would be very nice and perhaps sometimes preferable if major trans character were included because I'd be interested in that kind of perspective interact with the plot and characters of standard stories" As for writers who choose to include trans characters the best way to do it is to do what the manga writing group clamp does, the only time they draw any attention to the fact that a character is trans is if they are misgedered and even then that's very rare, otherwise no one bats an eye even though all the traits that cone with being trans is there and is equally as on display as a straight man fiding a random girl cute, in other words, treat it likes its just a normal thing And that's the best approach because if you try to hard to draw attention to the conflict between what's considered normal and whats not considered normal or otherwise isolate the subject from what is considered normal then you end up planting the idea that the subject is special or even alien into people's minds To end a conflict between what's normal and what is not you must drop the conflict and instead treat it as if it were normal and get other people into the same mindset by relating it to what they consider normal or logical I myself am a straight guy and I wrapped my head around seeing gay men as normal by thinking "every person, man or woman has genes that are combined from both a mans genes and a womans genes ie their parents, and we know sexual attraction is an evolutionnary trait within a person's genes because it allowed the human species to survive by reproduction, so since every mans genes is in fact a combination of both male genes and female genes it would not be a stretch to think that part of a female's genes that causes her to find men sexy may just so happen to be the very part of the mothers genes or gay fathers genes that got passed down So therefore what a gay man feels when he sees a man is no different from what a straight woman feels when she sees a man, and a perfectly natural method at that" That was how and why I see gay men as normal

I believe anything can be done, if it’s written well. Unfortunately this isn’t. This could’ve been easily solved by calling it transmutation magic, something that probably already exists in that world. They can even use it as part of the conflict between old and new magic. Like how old magic was used to change other inanimate objects. But the new magic version could be used to change living beings. It would’ve fit great into sages storyline, as there are endless possibilities with transmutation, and a natural thing within the world, and could’ve even brought snapdragon and sage closer, since they already seem to have feeling for each other. I’m not even LGBTQ but because I know good writing it doesn’t matter

I am on the writing of the cartoon and in this, there is a character named « Louis » in the first episodes. It’s planned that Louis will come out as a transgender but not before some episodes. Before that, I planned to leave some little hints about her discovering that she is transgender but only a little, since it’s not the main point of the character. And then, I have a few ideas for her coming out but I preferred to keep it simple. There is an episode when we saw her in the background, a little bit afraid and asking her best friend to come talk to her in privacy. After that, the episode goes on with the other characters and we don’t see her and her best friend before a long time. We only saw them 2 episodes after where now, her best friend and another friend call « Louis » as « Louise », showing that she made her coming out to her closest friends in the last episode, in the background. I am not transgender. I am kinda confused about myself I would say so I can’t tell you exactly what I am. But I don’t want to make forced representations because I know it’s bad. Of course, I have some LGBTQ characters planned in this cartoon. However, I am working a lot on their personality because the personality of these characters is extremely important for me. It’s something where I don’t want any mistakes so I am studying a lot about personalities, psychology, especially among children (the story starts when they are around 11-13 and then, they will grow up and change eventually), relationship etc… At the beginning, she was supposed to have made her coming out a long time ago. But based on the time period, the place where the story takes place and her family issues etc…I think it would have made more sense if she made her coming out only a few years later, when she feels ready. Plus, the main lesson of this cartoon is about growing up, discovering itself and things about the others. The kids start at the age of 11/13 and the cartoon will follow them until they get their BAC (high school final exam in their country). And maybe if it works, I could continue the story about their life in college/university ! So I prefer to make Louise slowly discover and understand who she really is and then, trying to find the courage to tell her best friend about it. But at the same time, since she only tells her best friends first (and the others will understand without having to ask Louise), I prefer to keep it secret, as something in the background because it’s a thing she first wanted to share with her closest friends and not with the others. So, I don’t know if my way to make the coming out of Louise is good. It’s just an idea. That doesn’t mean I am going to keep it. It depends on what people likes also and how the episodes and characters goes on.

@n00bplayer722 жыл бұрын
How not to write a trans character: "Hello! I am transgender! Which means my gender is trans! Which means I transferred my gender! And now that my gender has been transferred I am much happier now!" Also reminds me of how the Star Wars High Republic series featured They/them jedi twins, and again, the characters in-story suddenly give a very blunt and conspicuous exposition to each other about how these twins are non-binary/non-conforming and that they use they/them pronouns. Like, bruh, show don't tell.

Yeah, I like that kind of subtlety. Like while you can make a character trans (or trans coded, I dunno what’s the proper word) you can sort of make up the reason for it cause they’re a shapeshifting being or wizard or something. So it fits like the world setting of fantasy ya know. Instead of just *outright* saying it…
@goodmachines77432 жыл бұрын
@@hannana.4319 Right. Like, all that's needed for you to know that this character is trans is that they show a photo of them as a woman, and then confirm it IS them. Boom! You know he switched genders, and you can also kind of infer why; they didn't like being a woman, so they transitioned. Bang! You know the character better, and thus you LIKE them more, because they seem more three-dimensional and interesting as a result.

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts: By the way, Benson’s gay and he’ll be treated as normal, let’s move on. High Guardian Spice: Hey, you wanna learn from the creator about transgender people for almost a minute?
@pipilili62412 жыл бұрын
I love the representation in Kipo. The scene where Benson revealed that he's gay is natural and not forced unlike this piece of rubbish. Kipo confessed that she likes him, and he just replied that he's gay. No further explanation and cringe lecture about what gay is Things went normally and nobody questioning his sexuality. It just happened, and they treated Benson as any other character. This is why I love Kipo 🔥🔥
@indigowendigo81652 жыл бұрын
@@pipilili6241 I thought Kipo's representation was mostly average compared to Lumity though and could use some work though, as I don't remember much of anything from Benson's boyfriend and why, if I remember correctly, it was literally love at first sight between the two, I felt like that could be more realistic even if it wasn't cringy and forced, or they had a lot of relationship issues that made the canon ship seem questionable. :p It mostly just seemed brought up on occasion, except for the ending, at least to me. :? I guess that what happens sometimes when you have a lot of other plot elements to work with though... and I guess nobody else really needed or wanted a relationship that badly, just them, and I suppose that's okay too. :p

@@goodmachines7743 People were thrilled to hear this kind of thing addressed so directly, something that would never happen on cable tv. And agreed. A show like Full House can stop everything and have the characters sit down and talk out their feelings, but in a show like this, or especially one with 11 minute episodes like Steven Universe, you can convey that two characters are still friends despite arguing without having them sit down and talk about it.

Jesus Christ that was the most awkward, painful exchange I've ever seen. There's more natural ways to incorporate that. Like, literally not using the words trans, because how he phrased it brought the dialogue to a dead stop. Of course he could have talked about gender dysphoria and how he used magic to make him feel more in line with who he is, also talk about how it pretty commonplace in their world because it's literally MAGIC. It could have been a solid character building moment but instead it's lazy clunky writing

Technically it's not real in the sense that it's normally portrayed. People are not literally born into the wrong bodies, kids don't need to memorize these things. Just teach your kids biology properly and tell them somepeople behave differently than others or think things that are not necessarily true at times, so long as they don't bully trans people, nor allow themselves to be bullied by them. The big cringe is not just the pro trans stuff though, it's how they seem to have this "leftist"(so to speak) checkmark of things they need to include in the anime, it's so transparent it's annoying.
