Hi everyone I need sum DICE ADVISE the TLDR is basically how many of each kind of dice do you need for dnd? Some one told me I need 2 of each dice from D4 to d20 aka two D4s two d6s two d8s two 2xd10s two d12s two d20s but I see on line there are also sets with d24 d30 d60 do I need them as well?? I've also seen on a YouToube video they some times you need to role 3 8Ds at ones so do I need 3 of them? I'm not interested in "collecting" decorative collars or glow in the dark metal/exotic material or otherwise fancy dice. I just want to functionally have a full set of dice with no more or less then is necessary to play DnD even at high levels of play.
@FitzTheGame21 күн бұрын
@@AncientRylanor69 there is no right answer to this question. It will all depend on what class you are playing and what level. TLDR: 4 sets of dice should cover you for 80% of gameplay, but having 6 would cover you for 95% That being said technically all you “need” is one set of 7 dice(d4,d6,d8,d10,d12,d20 and d100) if you need to roll 6 d6 you can just roll your d6 6 times in a row. That makes things more drawn out though, especially at higher levels of play. It’s best to have a spread of dice, in my opinion. The lower dice(d4, d6, d8) you’ll probably want to have 4 to 6 of each, d10, d12 and d100 you could probably get away with have 2 of each, and the d20 you would want to have at least 2, but keep 2 extras around in case one is bad luck and you want to switch it out.

I’m very old and have played D&D for decades. I’m now learning Pathfinder. This is an excellent video for people who are just getting started with d20 games. All the dice can be confusing. I also liked your inclusion of why you might want multiples of the same die. I was out of town earlier this year, playing at PaizoCon in a game store. I bought a couple of extra sets of dice just for the reason you mentioned: I needed to roll 3d4 for a spell I used a lot and it just made sense to HAVE 3 d4s instead of rolling 1d4x3.

One quick tip, even as a veteran gamer of 30 years, I sometimes at first glance get the d12 and d20 mixed up. Both look like pretty round balls, unless you know what you're looking for. Look at the faces. If the faces are triangles, that's a d20. If the faces are pentagons (5 sided shapes), it's a d12. With d8 and d10, the faces of the d8 are triangles. The d10 faces can be a little variable but will at least roughly be elongated diamonds. And watch out for the d4s if they fall on the floor, these are designed to double as caltrops and will pierce your feet if you step on them without shoes. Back in the day, dice sets came without the percentile dice. You just got the d10 and you either rolled it twice, or you rolled two different ones of different colors and remembered which you had designed as the hundreds place. (I've seen a few tables used some places that have you roll 3 d10s and generate 1-1000...). Apparently even backer in the day (before my time), you just got a d20, number 1-10 twice rather than the d10.

What? No, 00+10=10, this guy is wrong. 00 is 0 then add the d10. Lowest is 1 highest is 10. To get 100 you would need to role a 90 on the percentile dice and a 0 or 10 on the d10.

You are welcome. Try asking around local game stores, see if there are any groups in the area looking for players. Or let them know you are starting a group and are looking for players. Conventions can also be good for this. Also, look into D&D adventurers League(not sure if this is still a thing, haven’t heard about it in a while and it never happened near me) it’s organized D&D that a bit of a promotional boost for wizards of the coast to promote the product, they have a website you can search to find a game near you. You can also check Reddit or similar online groups on Facebook and see if anyone in your local area is looking to start a group. Best of luck in finding a group and happy hunting.

If you roll 00+0 it equals 10 not 100, the number that equals 100 is 90+0. I have had this argument alot with DMs. If its 00+0=100 you now have a 2% chance of hitting 100 instead of 1% chance. If the 1-0 die is one to ten then to roll a 60 you need 50+0 with this scale the total can only be between 1-100. If the 1-0 die is instead zero - nine, the scale is now 0-99. The 00-0 hundred is confusing because you need to clarify that you are replacing the 0 total to now be the 100 roll and that the 1-0 roll is now read as zero to nine, not one to ten. This could matter if someone needs to meet a 60% to succeed. They roll on die 50-0, is that 50% or 60%?? Its nice to clear it up before so everyone knows which way the math is being counted. With one 0 reading as ten, you just add them together same as always for every roll, but for 0 as zero, you have to remember to calculate it differently when 00 is on the other dice. Yeah my DM did not roll percentiles openly with me. Lolz
@FitzTheGame11 ай бұрын
The way I see it: since rolling a percentile die and a d10 technically give you a number between 11 and 110 but you are rolling on a chart that’s between 1 and 100, you can’t get over a 100 value so you don’t count the 100 of you roll the “00” on the percentile die and you don’t count the “10” on the d10 if you roll “00” and “0” (maximum value on both die, representing the highest roll available) at the same time. So 00(100) + 0(10) = 100 because you have hit the maximum allowed value. If you roll 90 + 0 you have exceeded the maximum allowed value in the 90’s so you disregard the 0(10) roll. If you roll 00(100) + 9 you rolled 109 which exceeds the limit so you drop the 00 because you need to be able to roll between 1 - 9 because that’s how the numbers are set up on the chart. Same as any other rule though; it’s up to the DM to decide how to use the d100 roll at their table. If you run your game different from other people that’s fantastic, just make sure players understand before they roll.
@FitzTheGame11 ай бұрын
Also, I want to make sure you know that I’m not saying you are wrong, I just see it differently. This is a fantastic topic for discussion. It’s great to see other people’s point of view, D&D is such a fun game because it gives you the ability to customize any aspect you want and play in a way that makes sense to you and your players.
@DudeMan162011 ай бұрын
@@FitzTheGame yeah this can be confusing, as your technique now introduces a third way of calculating. So if we go by your way. on a percentile check of 50% where 50% and lower is a fail and 51% and higher is a success. There is now 40% chance of failure (anything between 10-1 and 40-0) and 49% chance of success(anything between 50-1 to 90-9) and 11% chance of getting a critical success by rolling a 100. (90-0 and anything between 00-1 and 00-0) The question is how do you determine a critical failure roll of 1%, probably just say that rolling 10-1 is the worst as it is lowest on the scale. But yeah talk to your dm first, and usually as a player you dont roll percentiles that much anyways, its usually a DM rolling percentiles to figure things out on random tables.

If you were to take two d4 and connect them at a base you will be losing one side from each die so it would really be like an odd-shaped but still very fair, but hard to read d6. If you come up with an odd way to count the edges you can make one that's easier to read.
