Your reviews are great. I would love to hear the rationale for your layout choice and your thoughts about how the layout worked. I'm noticing some lower VAL angles in recent reviews.
@JeffTeachesBowling8 күн бұрын
Thanks very much, I appreciate it! I decided to go with a lower VAL angle and a bit shorter pin distance than I normally would use just because the core of the ball is a bit weaker, and with my ball speed I was afraid the ball might be a bit too mellow. Larger VAL angles kill the ball reaction for me. This is fine on a big-reacting ball with a very powerful core. But on a ball with a bit weaker core, it's overkill. Plus the earlier hook from the increased flare also works well with my speed. How has it worked? I'm still using the same Envy Tour almost 2 years later. It's got over 200 games on it by now and I've never had to rejuvenate the oil out of it. I just keep the surface clean and fresh whenever I bowl an event and the ball still works great. Check out my Hammer Effect Tour Video from a few weeks ago and you can see it in action when I do the ball comparison - the same Envy Tour I did this video with!
@larryroberts66148 күн бұрын
@@JeffTeachesBowling Thanks for the in-depth explanation! Sounds like a great option for lower differential cores. I struggle with getting hook on longer, heavier oil patterns like Shark, Weber, or Hardwick. In addition to more surface and slower ball speed, would this kind of layout help on a stronger core ball? I feel like I need help to get the ball to read sooner AND hook at the end of the pattern. What's your surface and layout strategy for long patterns? Maybe a topic for a whole video!
@JeffTeachesBowling7 күн бұрын
@@larryroberts6614 I used to be really good on longer patterns when lane surfaces were wood, or older synthetics, because I could still get the ball to pick up a little bit. On newer surfaces, I have to work hard at slowing down. That said, the earliest hooking ball is often the slowest hooking ball, and on long patterns, a slow hooking ball won't turn over in time. The faster ball is often much better. So a ball like the Envy Tour might pick up, but might not hook enough. I'd get something with a much stronger core and a big hooking surface, but also that might have a bit higher RG to help with some length and saving some energy for the backend. I've been using the Track Criterion for it and it's been great for me.

Love the video. I never had the original Theorem, but this pearl was pretty good last night. Despite having a blister on my ring finger, I shot 24 clean, 217, 280 before the finger bothered me. It's a great ball in the oil. Your angles are pretty close to mine. Love the video!!

Had my Real Time drilled pin down. So far, it doesn't hook very much (1 handed righty). If i throw it down 8, it might hook to 10.

@JeffTeachesBowlingАй бұрын
After throwing both, I feel like the Real Time is a bit earlier and smoother, and a bit more hook overall, but I think these two are both the types of balls where it might vary a bit depending on who's throwing them, the lane conditions, etc. They're close.

Rolled this ball yesterday and was expecting much more backend. My Hybrid Theorem has more snap and angle on the backend. Lanes were dry as well. I'm going to try surface on it and see what it does.
@daniellenart1729Ай бұрын
This one looks really interesting... I have a lane shined GB5, that I absolutely love, it can play all over the lane and it looks great almost everywhere 1st-5th arrow. It's like a perfect mix of an IQ/OG Idol for me that kicks out the corners. However, there are times it does get a little slow or picks up too early. . I've been looking for a complimentary ball, with a similar shape to go to when that happens. I picked up a Gb4 hybrid, but honestly it's more far apart than I was expecting. I don't see a similar shape with my GB4 Hybrid. With some shine, It is too clean, forward and fast of the friction. With surface it's just too smooth to come back. This looks like it could be that same rounder more continuous motion of the GB5 to go to when the GB5 is slowing down and not going through the pins properly. Thanks for the video

Nice review. How do you think this will compare to a GB5 with the same surface?
@JeffTeachesBowlingАй бұрын
@069rene Thank you, glad you liked it. I would expect the GB5 to be earlier and smoother with the same surface. I wouldn't expect he GB5 cover to be as clean or as responsive to dry as the HK22 base coverstock in the Real Time. The lower RG in the GB5 would likely also contribute to getting the ball to see the pattern earlier. The differential is lower, though, so it might counteract that a bit, but it would also contribute to a less aggressive backend move as well. Just my prediction. I'd have to try it to see if I'm right 😁😁
@069reneАй бұрын
@ thank you. I personally think the Real Time can be as strong as the GB5 at the same surface but just with a different shape.
@JeffTeachesBowlingАй бұрын
@069rene d Depends on how you define "strength." If you're just looking at board coverage, it would not surprise me one bit if the Real Time was more.
@069reneАй бұрын
@@JeffTeachesBowling not really looking at board coverage. Overall strength. But I do think the same that the Real Time could have more board coverage.
@JeffTeachesBowlingАй бұрын
@069rene that's what I mean, though. "Strength" is a vague term. Balls can be strong in different ways and different aspects of ball reaction (board coverage, earlier, snappier, etc). I don't know which of those aspects you're referring to.
