Track does have a benchmark ball. The Stealth Solid. Granted that's a little bit stronger than is typical of a "benchmark" ball but not by much. If you're looking for a benchmark type reaction but want one just a hair stronger than the others, the Stealth is great.

Benchmark isn't just about reaction shape. It's also about strength. The Stealth is really strong, and that makes it more difficult to be a true benchmark ball. A benchmark ball is one which you throw first, to help you determine what ball you *should* actually be throwing. But with a ball as strong as the Stealth, if you need something weaker, it will be tough to determine how much weaker you actually need to go because there's so much spectrum of "weaker" below the Stealth.

@@JeffTeachesBowling It seems the type of ball we would consider benchmark are quite different. For me, sym solids in the .045-.056 dif range fit that slot. Something with an .034 diff is way too weak for that. That's more like a mild, burned up lane control ball like a Rattler or even a Hustle. Absolutely not something I'm pulling out on the fresh because it's not going to do anything unless I get it out past the 4 board and then it's going to over-react.

what would be a good "inbetween" ball between the Track Stealth Pearl and the Hammer Black Widow 2.0 solid? I'm lower rev / speed dominate. Hammer Raw solid? Radioactive vibe? Track sensor solid? Hammer Dark Web hybrid? Dv8 brutal collision? does it even matter because they are all good? decision paralysis with money burning a hole in my pocket lol.

The Stealth Pearl and Widow 2.0 Solid are both pretty big hooking balls. There’s not a lot between them, to be honest. Can you give a little more detail what both of those balls do for you, so I can get a better idea of the reaction that you need? My first hunch is a Paragon Pearl, but I want a bit more info first.

@@JeffTeachesBowling black widow too aggressive most of the time and hooks early and almost doesn't even make it all the way down the lane before its in the left gutter. If i stand too far left it loses all it's energy and doesn't make it back to the pocket. the stealth pearl ... just goes straight mostly? I just took the the polish off with a 4000 pad and going to try the stealth pearl again probably tonight and try that. I probably don't need another ball i probably just need lessons. I'm still very new to bowling.

@BassRacerx If you're new to bowling then yes, absolutely 💯 that the lessons will do more for improving your scores. In fact, after taking lessons you might be able to solve both of the problems those balls are giving you. You can learn how to use the Widow when you move left and you can also learn how to get the most from your Stealth Pearl to prevent it from going straight. You might find you don't need a new ball at all right now. Knowledge is Power.

Nice. A couple of notes : A ball being 3000 will not lane shine due to being 3000. All balls will lane shine. It's just the the 3000 will do it faster because it is already close to lane shine numbers. Also, a Diff of 0.53 vs a Diff of 0.50 , almost certainly has zero noticeable difference.

On the lane shine, I meant that the 3000 surface will result in it looking and reacting closer to what a polished ball would be than something at, say, 500 that lane shines. Regarding differential, I think you're underestimating how noticeable it can be depending on the style of the bowler. For me personally, even a .003 difference when we're in the .050's will mean a decent flare increase, as I already approach flaring around the entire ball on some pieces of equipment.

@@JeffTeachesBowling From my understanding, lane shine is a steady state that the coverstock reaches after use. All balls lane shine to pretty much the same grit range. 4500 to 4800. Doesn't matter what they start from. USBC has done tests on this and the Diff played a noticeable role (compared to all other factors that affect ball motion), below 0.35 and above 60. The middle values had a minimal effect. So it is much more likely that what interpret as a Diff difference, is due to one of the other many factors that affect ball motion that we can't even measure or see easily with our perception.

Cover still matters and so does dif. My polished night road pearl has a cover that is stronger and reads earlier than my 3000 lane shined Vapor Zone Hybrid and RSTX 1. And it's a pearl and it is so shiny it will blind you. @@bowlingxp8345 Regarding difs, yes that little amount can make a difference. There are times I have to play the gutter and I'm targeting the 3rd board. That little bit of dif can make a big difference.

I don't know about that. Many years back I had the chance to throw a couple prototypes. Both were sym solids, same coverstock and finish, just a slightly different core. One was .050 the other .056. They were WAY different. The .056 one was much earlier and stronger. I would say it was like one had 1000 surface, the other a 4K surface, it was that different. Now obviously that's twice the difference as here but I bet if all else was the same, I could tell a .003 difference in an A/B comparison

@@wingracer1614 That sounds extremely weird. The difference between a 1000 grit ball and 4000 is HUGE. If that difference was similar to the difference of a 0.003 Diff, then we would would see huge differences in almost all cores across all balls. Using the human eye to judge is not a scientific way. There are many ways in which you can be fooled. Personal experience can be deceiving. But when a study with a robot is made, the results are a lot safer and closer to the truth.

Yeah, sorry about that. I noticed the same thing and had to re-record a couple of the later parts. I figured out what the technical issue was and should not have this issue in the future. I'm relatively new to this type of content (commentary videos) so a bit of a learning process for the technical side of it.
