They had lots of black things in their house and wanted black silicone. There is a trend in England to jabe a shadow gap under the skirt/baseboard, this blacknsilicone imitates that

Why on earth would you do that in black? Grey, beige or even white would look better than that. Unless you are going for the “you have a beautiful house, I love how you have caulked your flooring” comments!

The client requested it obviously and I like it too. Probably because I'm fed up with seeing boring colours, some people like to make a feature of it if it is done neatly

Excellent. What angle do you cut on your tip? And what's with the little kink? Also beko surfactant spray Vs water and washing up liquid? Any difference? Thanks in advance.

Thank you, I bend the nozzle because It helps to get into the internal corner on the beginning of a bead pulling outwards, it also helps to indicate the direction the nozzle is cut. The tip is cut almost flat on a very slight angle, soapy water is fine and cheaper

Yes he does, it's not rocket science. Get yourself some 10 x 18 x 2400mm Stripwood and cut a 35° angle on it. If you wish sand the tip to 8mm etc

The finished bead of silicon is lumpy, you can tell by the way the light is reflected off it at the end. Try cutting the nozzle a little bit bigger, applying a little extra silicon and then instead of spraying just the stick, spray the bead and scrape the extra silicon. This way it gives a very uniform bead all the way around l, not a lumpy bead. Thats how we do it in Australia.

Hiya thanks for the advice, that's how I used to do it. Now I do it this way, no wastage and can get really nice bevels round corners. I don't see any lumps in my work though so don't know that's about 🤷
@andrewe611

@@southcoastsealantsltd wastage is not really an issue when you do 200lm in 8 hours... plus it's a lot cleaner as well as fast. We use an ice cream stick that has a 5mm radius and it comes out looking a lot better with the radius and the plus is that you use less silicone as well! That's until you learn to do it off the gun, where you use the back half of the nozzle to scrape the silicone while you apply and there is no need to touch it with the stick. That's where it gets really quick and nice! It's the secret to smashing meters and doing top notch work but it takes lots of practice to fine tune. And no waste either! All the best! 👌

You won’t be doing silicone better than this guy - the scrape method is sh*t for corners. Wastage is also a big factor when you’re self employed and the one actually buying the silicone.

@andreiemerich7557 I'll do my best to be humble here but the type of work ethic you're trying to recomend I adopt is something I have always avoided. Gunning in without tooling is just cutting a corner, the sealant should be tooled and compressed to create a tight seal. Also your rounded stick method is no good as the edges will be thinner and peal away quicker, also you're probably spraying lots of soapy water everywhere which can prevent the sealant from sticking. That wouldn't pass on a 50k bathroom like this one in the video. Sorry if I sound harsh but it's all true

@@RobJdutr Yeah, I'm self employed mate, working on luxury high end homes in Melbourne, Australia. Silicone cost is between 5-10% of the job value so wastage is not really an issue. And the corners, well, that's our trick of the trade but let's just say you don't last very long in the high end business if your work is crappy and not on par...
