Excellent work!!! What if the joint is wider ? Do you have a different stick which is wider ?
@southcoastsealantsltd3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, if the joint is a lot wider sometimes it will require foam backing rod between the frame and brickwork. This creates a backer, something to hold the silicone in place. This also saves on silicone wasted as the backing rod is a lot cheaper than the silicone 👍

Just about to fit a double glazing unit in my garage conversion. What make of external mastic would you recommend for around the edge of uPVC unit?
@southcoastsealantsltd2 жыл бұрын
I always use Everbuild 825 Low Modulus Silicone. If you're going to use another brand just make sure it is Low Modulus (LM) as this is designed for external use. High modulus (HM) is designed for internal use

Thanks for the vid my friend, please 2 questions, what silicone do you use, all the good ones I use are £10 a tube, the builders don't like the bill when we do a whole house! Also, where do you get the sticks from, I've been using the fugi tool, but it leaves a residue behind, only noticeable when dry, tried a wavey stick from dortech but too wide and even with soapy water they pull the silicone out.
@southcoastsealantsltd2 жыл бұрын
Hi I use Mapei sealant or 3c HM sealant all supplied by www.sealantsonline.co.uk I make my own sticks I could sell you some

Dude why wood sticks? You know they make real tools to finish caulk?
@southcoastsealantsltd2 жыл бұрын
My wooden sticks are very real and hand crafted. It's a lot more satisfying making your own tools and not paying someone else
@leekreeger98852 жыл бұрын
The problem is wood wears down quick,and the caulk sticks to it.thats the reason you need to spray it with soapy water which can lead to bad ahesion.
@southcoastsealantsltd2 жыл бұрын
@@leekreeger9885 Yes it can lead to bad adhesion if excessive amounts of soap water is used. As for the sticks wearing down I sharpen my sticks troughout the day with a fixed blade Stanley knife and can cut any size stick to suit any size gap. I'd like to try using spatula type tools though is that what you speak of?
@leekreeger98852 жыл бұрын
Yes.bit you can also use tuck pointing tools and grind them to shape you need.you put a nice bead down but you tool very lightly and that leads to bubbles and adhesion problems.i get its trim with little movement
