As a white man I would like an honorary membership to the Black Guy Club because I think that I’ve been lied to about my race. Every time I see white people jumping off of cliff’s with squirrel suits on or swimming with sharks I like to call my Mama and ask her if she has anything to talk to me about because not once have I ever looked at a white people’s activities and wanted to participate. Whenever I see them/us doing wild stuff I immediately feel like a black man because none of it looks fun or like a good time. Shit I’ve had to do enough crazy stuff to stay alive out here on these streets…

It is Human to be curious. It is intelligent to expect that. How could he be the only Black man in that neighborhood and not expect to be stared at? On the other hand, you have 'Black in China', dudes from Africa who went there to study, learned the language, and now invite the curiosity of the locals who won't have seen a black man before. All with good humor and empathy for the locals and their culture. It's all a matter of perspective.

This is 100% accurate and is why I moved. I moved to Chicago. Young people can’t afford to move to NYC anymore and that’s killing the city’s vibrancy. The only thing that might save NYC is if the cat lady, Sex In The City, girl boss thing ends.

Nah, that‘s really just what Americans think. That’s a wrong stereotype. We Germans actually value good customer service but for us it has more to do with discretion, professionalism and building relationships at a natural pace. We don‘t need any "Hey how are you?“s because that is just disingenuous.

Even making a 6 figure salary isn't enough to guarantee any level of comfort in NYC, people with high paying tech and corporate jobs driving Uber and starting OF pages just to get by is a bad sign. Cops are better paid than most civilians because they have to be in order to afford COL but but not sure about other public servants like teachers, govt employees, etc.

From my perspective, NYC in 2024 feels like the same person repeated endlessly. They’re easy to spot-same white sneakers, same light blue denim. Nearly everyone sports a shiny Moncler jacket or Canada Goose. Conversations often sound like they’re straight out of Clueless, with a Cher-like cadence or a valley-esque accent. Authenticity seems in short supply these days. I love my place, but I find I stay home a lot---there really isn't much to see.
@nyamean10 күн бұрын
I wonder the reason behind the growing trend you mentioned is because the effects of social media and tech. I feel like people are starting to look for that authenticity we once had and demanding it.

You cannot live in Manhattan in a decent size 1 bedroom apartment without spending over 3,000 a month on rent. My friend is a nurse, makes 100k a year but needs a roommate to pay rent to have her own bedroom. She pays almost 2500 a month.

I had this same experience kinda. Grew up in rural Midwest as a kid and had the fear of God beat into me about Chicago. I eventually hit a ceiling when it came my career and salary so I had to decide if I wanted to advance (move to Chicago) or stagnant. I went through with the move and it was truly eye opening. I had some of the best years of my life living in Chicago. Ngl, it took me quite a while to unlearn all those incorrect conservatives taught me about life. It was all wrong.

The entire Bible Belt is brainwashed. It started with their religion. They believe stuff for which there is zero evidence, which carried over to their political beliefs. They don't understand that evidence comes before belief. They have it backwards.

I took a left at Albuquerque... or Eberstadt (can't remember which). Germany and America would be wise to provide every citizen with the best education and healthcare available on the planet. How you get there is a matter of process, but both healthcare and education are essential for a strong, healthy nation. Also, Binding Bier is better than anything that could be fricked or fracked.
