Thank you for your question. As with most plants, Tibouchinas will continue to grow until they reach what their maximum height is. Depending on your variety, this could be anywhere from about 2 metres through to about 10 metres. People prune for numerous reasons - to maintain a desirable shape and size, or to prevent the plant from becoming too large and branches perhaps a bit brittle. So, I mainly used the chainsaw to cut the trunk down to the level that I wanted. You could go without doing that - you just need to cut it down to level that you desire. Hope this helps :)

This is a really good question! Unfortunately I have never done this, but I believe the tree itself would espalier very well. But my main concern would be for the fruit and their protection from the sun - they do sunburn quite easily. Hope this helps

The thing is ……… it is not fully spent. The mushroom farmers have simply finished with it as it is no longer producing the quantity of mushrooms they require to be commercial. Also, in time, other types of fungus start to grow in it as well. So, for the purpose of using as a compost in vegetable gardens, there is still quite a lot of nutrients - the NPKs etc. Lastly, its pH can be slightly alkaline (only slightly) but the composting process itself tends to neutralise this. A good question - no it is not and for that reason I tend to not use it up against the house. Having said this, exactly the same thing applies to most other organic mulches as well, not just hardwood chips. For this reason, termite inspectors (we have annual inspections) look for no mulch giving access for termites to the house - so keep all plant based mulches away from the house. On a side note, even just have cardboard covering up to the house provides nice moisture levels in the soil that can then actually encourage termites in to that area and risk them accessing the building.

We have other gardens where after a couple of years it has completely disappeared so we keep this going over the years. I wonder if the cardboard you used was the type that has a plastic or waxy surface - this might affect things. But it does sound like you achieved the goal of controlling weeds - the cardboard killed the weeds that were there and prevented seeds from germinating. Of course you have now removed the cardboard, so perhaps this is even better. Happy gardening :)

@@iCultivate1 not sure what kind of cardboard was but I did removed all the plastic tapes even the sticker dockets. Maybe I will try another time see if it is working with another type of board.
