The reason for this cars failure is I fear...Automobiles to a great extent has gone beyond human common senses...and early 2000s was a crux for that.. It would have been a great success if it was launched either 10 years back or today...if you call it ugly ,just see what Elon musk is doing.

@@pramodhb6796 I think a lot of it is branding, it was a rather expensive Renault, it was a bit quirky looking and in this segment rwd and a saloon bodystyle was the norm, which suggested expense! But I feel this was a unique offering, similar to my C6, which are both different cars but share the lack of success or appreciation! Thanks for watching and commenting

Fantastic GT cars these. I love mine, 05 manual and with 130k on the clock its a pure toy. Not my daily. These do get a lot of hate as they look different with the art deco styling. They stand out and people have trouble with things different from the norm. A bit like my love of the band Devo. You cannot compare them to anything else and people are mostly frightened of things that do not conform. I always think to myself "great. You are triggered. That makes me love them even more". @royale7620 I do! Coming up to 4 years of ownership. To be honest I try and do all repairs myself. Mechanically it's quite conventional, but it does seem to have some quirky faults that take me some time to diagnose. I imagine not many garages would be willing to fix them. There are Renault specialists but the Vel Satis isn't so common that even those haven't worked on many of these. It's well engineered, it was an expensive development program for Renault, but after 21 years all cars have their problems! It just has some novel features on it! My next job is replacing the faulty electronic handbrake! Getting some.parts is the biggest challenge. There's not a big following for this car, so many are scrapped when they have problems.
