Awesome straight forward informative video. Thank you for helping me avoid mistakes I was sure to make. Best advice? "Avoid a hole getting ripped in the side of your pool" 😂 Loved that part, but sorry that happened, we have ALOT of wind so I worry about whipping it around.
@sculptureforasmallplanet7 күн бұрын
Thank you friend! To avoid wind damage try putting 2X10 or some kind of long heavy lumber around the inside perimeter so the wind can't get under it. I even put 5 gallon buckets with water on top of the boards for additional weight. Then just dump them out into the pool. Hope this helps and thanks again,

Good thing about them is they only run when the sun is shining. I run mine on the regular pump on a timer so if it’s cloudy I have to remember to turn it off. Thanks,

@@sculptureforasmallplanet Yes that's right, it's hard to get a really powerful solar pump. Mine runs at a of 3000 litres per hour. Good thing is if it's slightly overcast the pump slows down so it gives a fairly constant temp. I stuck two of those cheap Intex Matt's in a frame behind 4 mm perspex and it really works well.

Dear Greg, our rooster got tendencies to be aggressive and at first I didn´t know what to do - but I realized that a five pound bird is not a real threat to a 200 pound person, but it IS a very unacceptable behaviour from a "pet" that are going to live in so close proximity to us. There are many videos, and you are mentioning it in the video that there is a way to hold the rooster down on the ground and then with a two-finger v-shape hold his head (gently) down to the ground. That worked absolutely perfect for our rooster, and he went from being an ingredient for a stew to being almost as friendly as the hens. I am sooo happy that I didn´t removed him from the flock, because, just as in your case - he is doing a really good job with protecting the flock and other rooster tasks :).

Our Polish rooster is aggressive. He and I do have an understanding of each other, and he tries his best to behave himself, but sometimes his urges are too much for him to resist. I know his tells, so I'm usually able to dissuade him from his urge to fly at me. I take my time, move slowly, and talk to him while I do my chores. Fast movements are a trigger for him, especially if I catch him off guard. Because he's a Polish, his crest feathers limit his peripheral vision, so he's easier to startle. As much as he's a pain in the butt, I have a soft spot for him. He's an excellent rooster, and at the end of the day, he's just doing his job. We've learned to be in each other's space without too many incidents. He'll still get me every now and then, but no major injuries other than a few bruises lol

Sure. The key is to the manifold aspect of the heat exchanger and the large volume of water. Get as much surface area as possible in your heat exchanger and put at the top of the barrel on it's side and you'll get a lot of the heat!

I’m in the process of designing a house, and I would like it to ideally be off grid as possible therefore somebody of the future does not possess the ability to shut off my utilities. I’m planning on digging a well for water source. I’ve been looking into multiple ways to tie things together and was thinking of how to use a soapstone masonry heater to heat my house, I can also get a free oven off of it by making side compartment/chamber and im Looking into how to harness thermo siphoning to passively collect the heat from wood burning stove to heat water. I like your side electricity control knob to control temp accurate because I’ll have solar in summer and not wood stove. Was planning on running all plumbing kitchen bathroom and laundry room internally connected and three walls facing so I minimize pipes/travel distance and only plumb one wall of my house, masonry heater will be next to kitchen by laundry room. I think a copper coil inside of my fireplace could heat water without electricity. Idk any other tips or tricks recommendations? How many times have you cleaned the copper pipes in ten years they look shiny and also? Great video I’m trying to come up with a design to refine it even more before I implement it and thanks for including what doesn’t work, this is very useful for anyone trying to improve. I like how we can all learn from eachother!
@sculptureforasmallplanet2 ай бұрын
Sounds like fun! Your idea of a coil in the fire box with a thermo siphon is a good one. That’s what I would do if I was designing from start. My house is too small to put the storage tank on the same floor as wood stove. I have to clean this thing twice a year. I’ve got a video on how to clean it if you want see what it looks like dirty. Also if you’re building from scratch consider the make up air for your wood stove. You could run a duct right to it from outside or a passive geothermal or both. Fire will burn better and house will stay warmer. Thanks,

Can you make a part list for this project please
@sculptureforasmallplanet3 ай бұрын
Hello. I only can provide a general materials list because I made this thing a while ago, sorry. This is made of type L copper tubing, 1/2” and 2”. About 30’ straight and 50’ of the coil and 10 of the 2”. I used 4, 2” end caps and 10 street 90’s. My pool uses 1.5” PVC pipe so the 2” copper is close to the same O.D. But try to make your manifold pipe close to whatever your pool’s circulation pipes O. D. is. Then use Fernco couplings to connect copper to PVC. I made the lower tube out of the inner tank of an old hot water heater. The other tubes are a thin sheet metal like 18 or 20 gauge. I used a higher temp silver solder but not sure if it is necessary as long as you keep water in the pipes lower temp solder should be fine. Hope this helps!

I have been subscribed for a while and also watched the update when the pool sprung a leak. 5-6 years without trouble is not bad. I plan on doing this in a couple of months with the exact same pool size and shape. Can you tell me why you wouldn’t recommend going too much deeper with the deep spot? I was thinking if a 4-5ft deep spot shifted to one end a little more.
@sculptureforasmallplanet3 ай бұрын
Hello! Yes, I would be glad to. The deep spot in this pool is about 32” or so making the overall depth of the deepest area 6’6” or so. It is square-ish with walls that are about 45 degree angle. The width is obviously limited by the width of the pool minus that flat spots on the sides that should be about 2’. These flat areas are important because I need an area to walk by the deep spot and more importantly for overall stability of the above ground walls. Everything would get more difficult the deeper you go, glueing together the liner, getting in out during construction, etc. With all that being said and you want to go deeper I would make it longer so one side is slopped at around 25 to 30 degrees while the other 3 sides are closer to 45. As far as positioning to one side there is no problem. Ours is slightly off center because of the layout of the preexisting deck. Hope this helps, and I’ll try to get a video about what I do different done in the next few weeks. Meantime feel free to ask more questions! Thanks,

Your mistake is that the bottom wood of the top-down fire is blocking the air from going to the fire. It should have a lot of gaps. If you are keen, you will notice that the bottom up fire has a huge gap that lets the air flow from the bottom, but the top down does not. So your set up was wrong.
@sculptureforasmallplanet3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your suggestion. I was just copying what I saw people say to do. Videos that essentially said that top down was the right way to make a fire. I’m sure it works for some people especially if you have a dry climate and dry fuel, neither of which I have. I’m glad you have found your way but when I’m making a fire I want it to burn fast so I’m sticking with bottom up. And for any newbie’s I recommend bottom up! Thanks again,
