Excellent presentation and breakdown of materials, equipment, prices, and most importantly the actual capabilities of your systems. I too would lean heavily toward a gas powered pump system because not only the possibility of power being cut by the power company or EMC there would be a possibility that water would be cut off and redirected for fire suppression in your area. I've got a rainwater catchment system with some storage right now but no swimming pool. Looking up a couple above ground models now..

It would not hurt too trim back your landscaping. Those tree branches hang over the roof, and would possibly be a fuel source, in a fire. Thanks for reading.

This is what everyone everywhere should have if you have a swimming pool. As to myself incoastal South Carolina I have a well and a generator if I lose power. I also have water taps set up around my property.. I do not have a swimming pool. Around here we worry about hurricanes so I always have water and elect.

Those red plastic nozzles are not rated for much pressure. I've had them come apart with not much use on construction sites. Better to go with a brass nozzle for long-term reliability. Also, I would be concerned about the pump running with all the nozzles closed. Those trash-style pumps are meant to run full open. You might be able to rig a return line back to the pool to allow some water to bypass if all the nozzles are closed.

I have spare nozzle but I don’t think this pump is capable of producing enough pressure to do what you were experiencing. But it’s a good suggestion. These things are like an insurance policy. This one is better than average but if one has the means they can definitely upgrade. Thanks for sharing your experience,

I read this comment about the Predator 3" and 290 gpm pump. The smaller 2" was sold out. Harbor' Freight's website didn't respond and it made me wonder why. Is there something that he's doing wrong? Will too much volume make it lose pressure? Here's the comment: "It will move a lot of water fast. However, it is much less useful for irrigation, where you need some pressure to run a sprinkler or a fire nozzle. I did run it into a 1.5 diameter fire hose and it did adequate moving water a couple hundred feet, but put a fire nozzle on, and it was just too much. It slowly lost pressure, until no water was coming out. I did take the pump apart and saw no problems. Started it up again with the same results. Left a open hose with no fire nozzle, and it moved water, directly onto the ground. Tried using it with a irrigation sprinkler (farm size) with unsatisfactory results. If I was on a boat, and we were sinking, this is the pump I would want. If there was a fire or I wanted to run a farm rated sprinkler, this would not be the one to get. It is sold as a semi trash pump, but I once thought that meant it could also be used for irrigation and fire suppression. It is sold as a semi trash pump, but I once thought that meant it could also be used for irrigation and fire suppression. Not so much. I have a need for a pump that will handle both of those tasks. This one does not fill the bill."

Hello, I looked up that 3" and it has 85 feet of head, which means that it will pump water straight up until it gets to 85 feet and then it will stop. The closer to gets to 85 feet the slower the flow, so if it does 290 GPM at 0 head (vertical lift) at 85 feet of vertical lift it will do 0 GPM. At 84 feet my guess that it would do like 2 GPM or so even if the hose was reduced in size just to give an idea. As far as I know head is kind of like pressure, (sort of). The Predator 3" pump has 85 feet head, the 2" has 91 feet and the 1" has 95'. Besides lower head the thing that I wouldn't like about the 3" is that it's just bigger than you might need. This type of set up is for keeping the fires from starting and putting out little spot fires more than putting out huge already existing fires. Then you would want a lot of volume. Also search KZbin and see if anyone has hooked one up to nozzle 3" and see how far it shoots. There are lots of other brands that are just as good if not better as well. As far as I know Predators are Honda nock offs. Hope this helps!

Just received my HF Predator. Planning to put together the PVC manifold today. In your previous fire vid, didn't you say that the male NPT (MPT) pvc connects to your female fire hose without any adapter and doesn't leak?
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet 12 күн бұрын
Hello, Yes, but the female firehose has to be NPSH (National Pipe Straight Thread) not NH/NST. The male NPSH firehose needs an adaptor for the female PVC. Shouldn’t be too bad with PVC and reducing bushings. If you’re running multiple T’s you can reduce there as well. So the hoses closest to the pump and don’t have nozzles on them would be bigger than n the ones at the end of lines with nozzles. This would also give efficiency with the 3” pump. Hope this helps,

If you tap off a full port valve before your home pressure reducer valve you'll get a 3/4" pipe @ 80-110psi, which is around 20GPM out of a 100' 3/4" garden hose. Which is less still than the pool pump but enough flow and pressure to equip a legit forestry nozzle at the end of the hose and do some serious firefighting. For reference a typical home garden spigot outputs around 5GPM max @ 50PSI or so, and those plastic gardening nozzles will reduce that flow down to maybe 2-3GPM.

Thank you for your video. For the pvc tee do I need 2" Schedule 40 PVC Tee - Slip (401-020) and two 2 in. PVC Schedule 40 MPT x S Male Adapter for each side?
@sculptureforasmallplanet
@sculptureforasmallplanet 16 күн бұрын
Your welcome. To start I would only use Schedule 40 for all of this. For my set up, I go from the 2" (F) which connects to the 2" (M) pump, to a 2" T and then reduce from 2" to 1.5" and then to 1.5" (M) threaded connectors. I used a little short piece of 2" pipe to connect the T to the 2"(M) threaded connector. You might be able to find a Street T so you don't have to buy 10' of 2" pipe when you only need 6". But this is getting really complicated if you have a good local hardware store they can help as well.
