@@BringerOfFire Yeah Britain & France are covered in Towns like that especially old Costal Towns that were perhaps once a Fort during the 100 year war / Napoleonic Wars etc etc.. And you have lots of Countryside Relics such as the Sycamore Gap along Hadrian's Wall that is/was Iconic (Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves) Sadly the 300 year old Tree was Felled by a vandal. But if you look on Google Maps at the Sycamore gap area you'll see Remains of a Roman Fort nearby & long very straight Roman roads that are still used today. 🙂

I just looked at it. It was a long time ago but Lots of reasons. The curvy section is hugging the hillside. I also needed the highway to go over the rail to complete the tunnel I had built. I am laying the highway in a manner that I think is beneficial to how the player will place their interchanges aka the straight sections

There's a mod virtually nobody seems to know about that makes building rivers almost trivial, "Terrain River Tool". It's a landscaping network that modifies the terrain, but doesn't stick around like other terrain networks. You can independently adjust the width and depth of every node to create a huge amount of variance. It also allows you to LERP between all the nodes. So you can build a perfectly sloped river on a flat map. Simply put the starting node on a raised section, the end node on a low spot, hit the "LERP height" button and the entire path gets sloped like you would do with Network Multitool on a road. I do this with the depth set to 0 to create the river "valley". Then I go back and reduce the width of the nodes, set the final depth, and hit "create river" again to cut the actual channel into that flat valley. You can literally create a perfect river in under an hour. One of the great things about the tool is that it doesn't cut a square channel. The channel actually has a sort of bowl cross-section like real river channels. That massively helps smooth the flow. Of course, if you cut a very narrow channel there isn't room for that shape and you do get more of a square. You can also use this tool for flat rivers as you prefer. And with the depth set to 0 it can be used to cut paths for other networks. I've used it, for example, to create road beds down the sides of mountains.
@johnterpack3940
@johnterpack3940 Жыл бұрын
Interesting the different perspectives people can have. I have to get the terrain right first. Because I don't like the artificial, overly-geometric road layouts that come from building on a flat map. The map I'm working on now is based on a real world heightmap. That gives me terrain I have to work around. As a result, the networks I've laid out look organic as they flow around the random obstacles. Plus, it's a fun challenge keeping the rail under a 1% grade on a hilly map.

Ill check that theme out and see what I can do, I took the Japan map and have been revamping it, couple days in and im finally working on the land and finished smoothing out the beaches and underwater land cause the map was just a straight port over from the outer line, no topography at all haha, so the entire edge of the land was about 100 meters down into the bottom of the water.

Looking at how you create maps is very interesting and inspiring. I love to make maps and have made a quite a few under the handle Greywalde. Thinking about my maps and what you do tells me there is so much more I can do to make my maps way better. I most certainly will be applying many of your techniques to my future work. I just released a map called Gulf Port. Compared to yours it is still very plain Jane. After watching you work, my next map will most certainly not be. I am going to take it to the next level keeping in mind many of the things you have mentioned. I will be honest and say many of those thoughts never occurred to me but now make a lot of sense. Especially when considering how folks will be building their cities and how much space they have to build upon. The question I have for you is what mods do you use aside from the basic tools. I have the same tree mod you have but when it comes to roads I am just limited to highways. Plus there is also no way in a vanilla setup to add lets say a dam into your map or anything else like that. But of course you are able to. I have a pretty strong computer too so I can use a few modes. I just do not know which ones I can use to create much better maps. Your suggestions would be most helpful. I have often wanted just to add a dirt road into a particular area much less a few more props. Just not been able to. Thank you for your videos. They are very interesting and worth listening to and watching. You are going to change the way I make maps.

Hi! I am pleased to hear you made it through! I feel most people turn it off when I say that a map takes months to make. Funny thing is that I was about to start recording season 2 (faster, less talking, more doing) and then the announcement for CS:2 came. Just doesn't seem right to fire up all cylinders to produce a map just as a game is expiring. We will see. I hope CS:2 integrates a lot of Traffic Manager or other must have mods into the game, But what I am really hopping for is a finer terrain mesh and textures, perhaps even more textures to place. Example: Heavy Grass, Dried Grass, Rocky Sand, Fine Sand. Water Freezing? I can confirm I have not been assigned by them to make maps for the upcoming game! Thanks for watching
