IMO, even 1.0 was actually pretty good for an open world gacha game. They actually tried to build up and flesh out a lot of stuff instead of speedrunning players from point A to point Z. It's sluggish at first and nowhere near perfect, but it's good nonetheless.

I think EN translation played a huge part in that misconception. Having played in JP and watched some JP CCs, the final dialogue on the shore was totally different from the EN version. JP Rover was saying something along the lines of : "Black Shores is our home, right? You should wear a better expression when you're back home, don't you think?" which Shorekeeper replied with a smile while holding back her tears : "You're right. I'm home." Really hits that filial love context. I don't understand why they changed that into "Welcome home, MY Shorekeeper" and "Thank you... MY STAR" in EN. Hence the romantic relationship interpretation. It was... so weird. It changed the whole context IMO, and not in a good way 😅 That being said, i don't understand CN so i have no idea what the original dialogue was supposed to be, but i'd ike to think that it was closer to the JP version instead of EN.

@tenkaiyayes8495 Oh, I didn't know that... I'd have to check the Chinese to see what the original says. But we can't start a romantic relationship just from two lines of text. We'd be doing the same thing that happened with Ninguang and Beidou. The meme is funny, but when they use these things to negatively criticize the game, that's the problem. Gathering Waves as a meme is funny, but a lot of people use it to criticize.

@@afra4664 oh i agree, normally, we can't. Personally, i just see the change as a weird choice. But shippers, glazers and haters do be crazy over those final EN lines, even though Shorekeeper and Rover actually didn't do anything remotely romantic throughout the whole quest (and even after 2 patches, still nothing). If i'm not mistaken, there's actually no romance in the game so far (yeah, not even Camellya). Man, gacha players and their absolute headcanons are so weird hahahah

@@silhouette9699 strong disagree on this , but its subjective , tho i do think wuwa is a rare case where eng tops others languages hands down imo, gotta repeat is my opinion tho (i listened to other languages too)

@@JustsomeguyXII Well, In my opinion I think there's cases (mostly characters) like Zani who has that cool accent that makes me want to play EN but everything else kinda sounds bland. Wish we could customize a specific dub for each character like in Arknights. Maybe that would stop all the dub wars (probably won't)

@@JustsomeguyXII WuWa is actually the rare case in which the English dub is broadly lacking in comparison to the other dubs. I say this as a player who plays the game in English; there are a lot of really lackluster performances in the English dub. Normally I would roll my eyes at a native English speaker choosing an alternate language over English with all other factors being equal, but like, just listen to Yangyang talk for ten seconds and tell me you don't die a little inside. Some of the English performances are great in WuWa, but not enough of them to be able to legitimately criticize someone for playing in Japanese or Mandarin because they don't wanna put up with the way Yangyang and Taoqi talk.

Imo the story was good but the way they handled it was a bit too much even for a lore reader, so many jargons was introduced in one go that it got hard to follow. I love the story but this was still a bit on the rougher side, 1.4 Camellya and Jinshis was way easier to digest vs Shorekeeper's.
