I just got them 2 weeks ago. They feel really great on the feet and they absorb a lot of impact. Great for a novice runner like myself.

It would be nice to see a running brand put "Breaking 2" energy behind a woman runner. Or just to see Sifan Hassan get a Kipchoge-level press and support for her next amazing feat (which I don't think she has, given the level of crazy excellence she has displayed). I'm really curious to see what Ruth Chepng'etich does in the coming year, and I believe her victory was legit. (Although obviously helped by the legal pacers on-course, re: the discussion about pacing). Prediction-wise...mine are...I think we will see increasingly crazy ultras and hybrid events as recreational and would-be pros want to make a name for themselves outside of the marathon and half marathon distance and social media becomes ever-more important in the running scene.

Earlier than the creation of new events, there will propably be a major increase in ticket fees for the already established events; similar to the elite running shoes seen a major increase in price.

Ciao sono Andrea da Milano. Ottima recensione molto utile.

If Garmin does not upgrade the charging mechanism with a magnetic one all other innovation between models are pretty useless...improving HR monitor, improving GPS,expensive battery display...not really meaningfull for a swim, bike, run person...i'm sure nobody was disappointed since FR 945 and Fenix 6 on those features

Worth the read: I love my Ultra 2. It was an upgrade from the Apple 5 watch so every aspect of every function was a big improvement. The standouts for training: I love that I can do a 7 hour ride and have plenty of battery left.. or do a run in the morning and gym later, no need to recharge. That's with using GPS and bluetooth earbuds and a stryd foot pod. Garmin does trounce Apple on battery life, but I haven't found an issue with the Ultra 2, but I did with the standard models Larger and brighter face. Much easier to see numbers. You can clearly see data even if you're in a direct line of sight for sun glare. The built in running power in watts works surprisingly well. It's on par with my stryd foot pod, though the stride picks up sprint peaks that Apple misses. Distance calibration: Apple combines your running stride length + frequency with GPS data to get a very accurate value. It can go out of sync if you run on a different surface like snow, but you can recalibrate by doing a 20 min run on snow. To further increase calibration accuracy you can do calibration trials at different paces and the watch will auto detect the different paces you have calibrated. I haven't found this necessary though. My distance accuracy is usually less than +/- 0.3 % discrepancy on road runs You can build your own custom workouts like intervals, and the watch will give you notice for when to work/ rest. It also has a bunch of generic workouts like 8X400m repeats, 1 min hill repeats.. all of which can be customized. There is a small amount of customizing the data you see when running, cycling etc. Organizing where you want put pace, speed, heat rate, distance, etc on the screen I also love having my favourite playlists on the watch. Additionally if you make use of the cellular feature you have *full* access to the entire Apple Music catalogue as it will stream music over cellular. Also works with Spotify and Amazon Music I hate, hate, hate running with pretty much anything not explicitly necessary for the run I'm on. But, I also like the utility of cell phone service wherever I am All of the Apple Watches with cellular can be used as a stand alone phone. Meaning you can turn your phone off, leave it at home, in the car.. and your watch is your fully functioning cell phone with calls, text, email. Ultra 2 doesn't have a non-cellular model, cellular function is included You need an iPhone to setup your Ultra 2, and you need a cell phone plan that includes a watch plan, typically $10/ month If you're an Apple user you'll know about Apple wallet where you can have your debit cards and credit cards electronically loaded. This means if you're out for a run with your Ultra 2 and you want to buy something to eat/ drink or whatever, you just tap with your watch to purchase No large cell phone, no wallet, no dollar bills/ cards stashed in your shorts. Everything is in the Apple Watch Garmin has I think one watch that has a stand alone cell feature, The Venu. So Garmin is paying attention and adding what used to be an only Apple thing. ---------- If you're a data geek you *must* download the WorkOutDoors app to your Apple Watch.. It is by far the most feature rich data logger presently made by any company. One time fee of $7.00 or something, no subscription Example of customization For my VO2 Max intervals I have it set up to auto switch display screens between warm up, work, rest, cool down. Plus.. I have it set up to speak data summaries of my work intervals during my rest interval. So when my rest interval starts I am told my average and peak wattage and pace for the previous work interval. This is highly customizable. You can set it to tell you virtually any metric.. There is a spoken 20, 10, 05 second countdown for the start/ end of each interval if you choose. I love this feature .. don't have to look at the watch For my steady state runs I have it speak my watts, pace, heart rate, distance every 0.5k (you can choose any distance or time) I find I rarely look at my watch when it's speaking the metrics I want to know at the time I want know them Screen customization is tremendous. Pretty much whatever metric you want displayed can be displayed where you want it and you can make multiple custom screens Trust me, you will not have even thought of most of the metric options that can displayed/ spoken that are available My main screen is just two metrics; watts and pace in a large font. Next screen is watts, pace, heart rate... make whatever you want. You want single metic large font screens, no problem The Ultra 2 alone is a very useful piece of running kit. When you add WorkOutDoors it is unrivalled WorkOutDoors can sync with Strava etc Also will read from a Stryd foot pod

The main improvement I’d like to see is better battery life. While it’s not terrible, it falls short compared to my Garmin Epix Pro 2, especially for ultra runners. During my 100K race with 2,000 meters of elevation gain, my Apple Watch really struggled, even in low power mode. It just barely lasted until the finish line, whereas my Garmin had no issues at all. For longer races like 100 miles or more, I wouldn’t rely on the Apple Watch - it’s simply not built for that level of endurance. I do own an Apple Watch Ultra 2, but I don’t use it for sports activities 😂. I track everything on my Garmin instead. Hopefully, micro-LED technology can improve battery life in future models. If that happens, I might consider coming back to Apple for my training and races.

I loved the book talk (as an published author who has been the recipient of reviews criticizing my books for too much cursing)! I have a book recommendation for Katelyn! Please don't start with Gravity's Rainbow if you want to get back to serious reading. Highly recommended: Jenny Tough's book Solo, about the author's journey running across six continents, solo and unsupported. As well as a great travelogue/running adventure memoir, it's very thought-provoking about how women are treated when they embark upon challenging athletic feats alone. Another favorite running book is Duel in the Sun, about the historic Boston Marathon face-off between Alberto Salazar and Dick Beardsley. As a Bostonian, I think Katelyn might like that one as well! I ran 2 marathons last year, 1 more than I resolved to run, and promptly entered a spring marathon (April 2025), despite hating winter. It is not yet January 1st, and I am already regretting that resolution.

The Hyperion 3 has so much stack and the same as the Hyperion Max 3? The HM3 looks way more massive. And the additional weight just comes from the plate then? I guess the PEBA DNA gold is not heavier than the Flash v2 foam. Or are the measurements rigged? Like 38mm is the official meassurement at 12,5% from the back but after that the stack still increases with the HM3? Like with those Mizuno shoes who save weight by cutting the foam under the heel of?

Sifan Hassan winning the Olympic Marathon after having also earned bronze medals in the 5k & 10k at the Olympics is #5??? I'm sorry, but Hassan's marathon performance is a competitor for top 3, at the very least... if not #1. I think it's a bigger fete than getting the world record on a pancake flat course, and especially bigger than a 4x400 winning leg.

I always use Clifton and have never used Bondi, but I recommend it to my clients. Mafate is the best I've used on trail and this new one with carbon plate is incredible. I don't have Tecton X3, which seems to be one of Hoka's best trail shoes at the moment. I have Cielo X1, it's a good shoe and I'm adapting to it in my fast training sessions and I notice the difference from regular shoes. I'm excited for Hoka's new shoes in 2025.
