Very nice Philip ! You know I always enjoy seeing your Spitfire again. ( I keep telling myself - if they ever offer the Avios European Spitfire again - I need to jump all over it. ) But, at least I do have one of the 1.2m Spittys from Flightline. In fact I had light breeze this morning from my favorite direction - so I took it out to fly again . . . along with my Dynam Me 109, and my 1.2m Corsair. I enjoyed great conditions for the first few hours of daylight, so I am pretty darn happy for the rest of the day !

Cool monster truck mods! I'd like to turn my Big Rock into a monster truck for the winter. Aside from the motor upgrade, did you do any other upgrades to get the tires to work? Such as upgrading to 17mm hexes, changing the pinion, etc. Or was it just plug n play? TIA
@PhilipCockram3 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching . Yes the wheel hexes were upgraded to 17 mm , Avoid the cap type , you want just a normal flat style 17MM nut , in case you need to put a proper socket on them to get them tight enough . Gearing will depend on the wheel size you choose and your driving style . Not necessary , but the truck has these upgrades also . Aluminum gearbox and Driveshaft upgrade make a big difference, also the steering bellcrank and ball links (stock are plastic) were upgraded because I didn't like the slop in the front end . Its insane on 6 S , really doesn't need it . It can wheelie when you're already going 50 MPH . Hope that helps . Best of luck. This one is for sale BTW , its on Marketplace .

Nice job getting off & back on to your 'gravel surface' aircraft carrier ! Looks like a good flyer - seems like it is fairly light - which probably helps a lot.
@PhilipCockram4 күн бұрын
Thanks JR , They finally graded it the other day ...its worse ... LOL . Oh well Hopefully its making me a better pilot . It is very light , takes off like a STOL . And that wide landing gear design is incredibly forgiving . Literally point at the runway and drop the throttle and it lands itself, It rivals the T-28 for best low wing ...and certainly wins as a taildragger . I love a tricycle landing gear set up but its just not the same as running in long with the mains . The landing practice video for this is going to be so much fun . Cheers . Have a great week .

@PhilipCockram9 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching . Best of luck . Take your time , this was a hard one and why I filmed it . The worst part is fitting all the wires back under the main connection plate , so try not to pull as many out as I did . Also , on another occasion not long after this , when I assembled the plane , one aileron wasn't working . On closer inspection one of the pins in the connection plate was pushed out of its socket . I put adhesive on the wires where they enter all the plugs so they can't "Push Out " again . I like the quick connect system but you really need to be careful lining it up . I try to leave it assembled as much as possible because. So far , this metal gear replacement servo has been OK and no other issues expect the terrible nose gear , which has been upgraded now too . .
@jjcustomcards9 күн бұрын
@PhilipCockram I was hoping to see more of the struggle under the wheel area, I'll attempt this weekend. Anxious to fly it for the first time.

I have the exact same problem but when I pulled the wires out the transmission bell housing I saw 8 wires in the drivers side part of the harness. My 02 sensor only has the 4 wires. White,purple,grey,green.
@PhilipCockram10 күн бұрын
Hi . The driver side is a different part of the main harness . the Passenger side front O2 sensor "T's off the transmission harness , its only about 4 inch long before it goes to the plug , and located right on top of the trans , very hard to even see let alone reach . Hope that helps.

Philip great flying, maybe more expo on the rudder? I almost always remove the gear doors if they hang low on the struts. Jeff in LA USA
@PhilipCockram10 күн бұрын
Thanks Jeff . Good advice always . The newer gear doors seem to be much better , I don;t know why they made them so complicated on this , Just screw them to the struts like everyone else does . LOL
@jollyroger222611 күн бұрын
More good flying with your Mustang ! It sure has a good presence in the air. I don't have that P-51, but my 1.2 model has some similarity. The little plastic gear doors, etc. are not very robust - and seem to need a little help. But my main comment would be about using flaps. Taking off is fine with or without a bit of flap. However, I commonly use the 'take off' flap setting since I don't see any negatives - and I feel that the extra lift can help to have a bit of insurance against a stall lifting off. And, I virtually always land with full flaps . . . (maybe not on a windy, gusty day.) The main thing that I like about the P-51's flaps is that using them does not have a significant effect on the trim. For myself - I have not found the flaps to cause the plane to balloon up. I may keep in a little more throttle during the approach to maintain the speed I want, but that's about it. Best of luck on your future missions!
@PhilipCockram10 күн бұрын
Thanks JR . Always good advice and to compare notes so to speak . I've been using flaps more and more on all the planes and notice the same things . I'd like to get the landings shorter and hopefully avoid the skid outs . I wonder how much function as opposed to just appearance they have on RCs .?? Sometimes they change the dimensions or size to accommodate . As far as this p-51 goes , I barely noticed anything with mid flaps on this except a tiny bit more lift . Haven't tried full flaps yet . The FMS 1100MM Zero on the other hand, has a huge change in attitude with just take off flaps added ...and they are only split flaps ...same as the Spitfire has ...but again on that plane , they have very little effect . I guess they are just different on each aircraft . Cheers my Friend .
@jollyroger222610 күн бұрын
@@PhilipCockram I agree. I have a 1400 mm Zero / FMS and that plane wants to nose up a lot when I put flaps down. One thing I like about using flaps is that the plane can come in a bit slower and lighter if you have your finesse working. And so I feel the landing gear is not stressed as much with a 'light' gentle landing.
@PhilipCockram7 күн бұрын
@@jollyroger2226 Sorry, missed this one . it would figure the larger one would behave the same . i think there's even a 800MM from them also . but probably has no flaps . I agree a gentle landing is prefered . I've already had some bent and broken gear . And your also correct that it requires more finesse to avoid last second dumps or ballooning . Practice makes perfect as they say . Cheers .

Hey Philip! It's not how you start, it's how you finish lol! Yeah man, she as in most P-51 are a bear on the ground handling (ground loop machine lol)! That's why on your maiden flight you did great taking off, flying and landing! Still great flight and landing man! Thumbs up!
@PhilipCockram11 күн бұрын
Thanks as always Fred . Everyone's help and advice on this and all the planes has been so welcome and grateful . It's such a heavy bird and narrow strip that almost any correction has little effect once its gone to the left or right. While i wish it was a few feet wider , the weeds and grass along the edges are better than ditches or concrete curbs . i almost thought I'd have find another place to fly this because of the size , but now that I have the blessings direct from the owners, to use this field , I was / am determined to make it work . But thats it though . 1.5M is my size and pocketbook limit 😂

Nice flying just watched your turbo timber video witch plane is faster top speed this or that ?
@PhilipCockram15 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching . They are very close when it comes to top speed , about 75 MPH for both. Depends on the battery and conditions . Other than the wheels , thats about all thats the same comparing these two . They share the same STOL features also but fly totally different . The TT EVO is a more well rounded design and the X is better oriented for stunts and 3D stuff . if I could only have one it would definitely be the TT EVO . Partly because the X has not been updated for several years now . And the very small bottom loading hatch is a real pain compared the the EVO. Hope that helps .
