Should I buy a plastic spool to the other spot, or can I always put the full film stock and pull it to the in-built metal spool?
@ShutterJamАй бұрын
It seems to be me that you already have a take up spool but it's made of metal ; these can also be made of wood and these days are all plastic. . With 120 film you pull the film through the camera and it'll sit on this spool. The film doesn't get rewound so if you send off your film to get developed then you won't probably won't get this metal spool back. If your sentimental about having a metal spool then you probably should remove it and buy a plastic one.

I recently got one with a job lot of other film cameras (I think about 12 or so) and it is a high Spec one with the Pentacon logo on the bottom, shutter release lock and self timer. Haven’t taken photos with it yet but have got batteries and the meter seems to be fairly accurate.

hi there , my camera view finder is black i wonder how to fix it . thanks
@kaitlynlancaster4655 Жыл бұрын
I believe the series from which this camera is from has a chronic issue with the motor, that brings the mirror up and down burning out/ breaking, so if the mirror is up when you take the lens off, that will be your issue. It is not an easy fix and would likely have to be done at a repair shop :)

Just saved one from being thrown in the trash from someone else. It's the same as yours but has the timer. And yes, it's built like a brick and will probably last as long as one too. Yet to put a roll through it but I sure am keen!

It's a pity that the top cover is plastic, because it's easy to break (crack) it during repair (having MTL5b with stuck release and repairing it now). I'm thinking about modeling its'top cover and order CNC aluminium top cover. Zenit-12, for example, is totally metal.

I absolutely love my Zorki 4K. It's more comfortable to shoot with than my Leica M2. If the viewfinder was bigger and the build quality a little better, it would probably be my favorite camera. I use a Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 color skopar on mine.

A simple trick to overcome possible light leaks on older cameras such as this is to use Tesa tape. This is a low tack fabric tape, black in colour and it's used to wrap around wiring looms in cars. I've used it when testing a camera with film. If the film turns out alright, then I'll replace light seals. Tesa tape is easy to manipulate, and I place lengths around the back of the camera once the film is loaded. It is barely noticeable when in place, and even feels nice in operation. Once you've exposed the film, the tape can be discarded after it's be wound back into the canister. If the film is damaged, or the shutter turns out to be faulty etc, at least you know it's probably not worth fixing when it's a low cost camera such as this. I also use this tape to cover the red film counter windows on my Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta. I simply peel it back while advancing the film and then seal it up again. I love Praktica cameras, and have this model, an FX, Nova 1 and an MTL3. They're all great cameras and very underrated, and a collection of cheap M42 lenses make them great fun for very little money.

What kind of battery do u use for this camera?
@ShutterJam4 жыл бұрын
A battery is only required for the light meter. I don't think I've ever used the light meter so didn't bother testing it.. The original battery was a mercury PX640A. You can find alkaline version of this battery on Amazon. The new version of the battery has a higher voltage and as result your light readings might be slightly off.
