2:42 it's worth considering that the Framework display has a 3:2 aspect ratio instead of the 16:10 in the Macbook Pro 14". That means it's smaller in total area, but when it comes to height it's only about a quarter inch shorter than the Macbook. 16:~9 is great for content consumption and gaming, so if that's your primary use case this *is* going to feel like a smaller 13" in screen. But for productivity purposes, height is typically *way* more important than width, which means the framework is giving you essentially the same amount of high-value space as the 14" MBP but with the weight and size of a 13" Macbook Air.

Is there going to be a follow up to this maybe going into depth about the dot files or more game experimentation on different DE? I read somewhere that KDE has the most inherent gaming oriented features like VRR support and HDR support if you're into that. Wayland also causes a lot of frickery and valve recently opted to dump a bunch of money or time into its development

Not much free/open source about this laptop, but it's easily repairable! I hate my Thinkpad, even the stinkin' WLAN adapter is soldered.

The CAD model and most of the schematics are available. If you are willing to sign an NDA, all of the schematics are freely available. The only parts not free and open source are the parts made by other manufacturers.

Hey there, great video and I'm glad to hear you're having a good time! You mentioned wanting the nice FPS counter that gamescope does, this isn't actually gamescope that handles it, but rather a tool called MangoHud - once it's installed right click your game in the menu and hit properties, then you can edit the launch command to "mangohud %command%" (without quotes) which will add it in. In game you can press Shift F12 to toggle the visibility. There's an application called GOverlay that will let you edit what shows up on MangoHud 😁

hey, just some quick tips, you can search through the repositories with pacman -Ss something (works with paru aswell) and when removing stuff, doing just pacman -R thing will just remove the thing, if you to pacaman -Rns thing it will remove the thing + all the dependencies that nothing else has as a dependency

Hei, this is cool as I also got one of these but haven't seen many other long time reviews so far on here. I hope they get more traction because it's an amazing product, at least for me. The money you pay actually gets a competitively performant and solid laptop One thing about the ports issues: there is very clear docs about where it was a technical issue before Mass Production, which is also why they got delayed. It's a bug which isn't on Intel FW laptops, unfortunately the HDMI will probably be fixed through firmware, but the USB C can only be used at full capability in the two back ports (e.g. for DP iirc btw I use arch and got the blank keys for touch typing 😂 P.S. I got the 6845 or whatever the lower CPU is called, so the battery is a bit small for me (still decent battery life tho) but smt cool is I could always upgrade the battery to the bigger 60ish Watts one in the future

Thanks for showing your actual first time and impressions; so many people are editing overview presentations instead. They miss part of the experience. I have mine arriving next week to replace an aging laptop, and you've answered a lot of what pulling this out of the box will be like. One thing that stood out to me is that the Deck seems to input a default control scheme for every game you start for the first time (maybe the most popular one?), so you don't need to mess around with it unless it's really not working for you. Really good intro stuff to know in advance, thanks.
@FifthDread2 жыл бұрын
You're totally right about the editing part. I wanted to make sure and capture my literal first impressions. Glad it was appreciated. As far as the controller profile thing- popular titles do seem to have a pre configured profile specific to the game, but for non steam games, emulators, Heroic Games Launcher Games like GOG / Epic games store games, you're on your own. You'll get good at configuring the controller yourself real quick.
