I nearly fell off the roof watching it with that camera work
@cw37288 күн бұрын
I took my sash out removed the edging round the glass and resealed it back on, however when I attached these side bits and then closed the window they got bent up like this. Will be trying to sort it tomorrow, fking nightmare since I cant get to it outside.

Need a fore man on site that can show the guys the way it should be done, some of the plastic floating around these days are handed to the roofers when its to late.A typical example of this would be continuous eave vents to be fixed to top of fascia boards now that is going to push everything up unless you lower or cut the top off fascia boards and who is going to do that at the eleventh hour your more than likely on price, no one going to pay your boys for standing around,chippy should have been told to keep fasica board down lower to allow for venting.Go to the next site not using that crap just tilting fillet.I still think the old way using timber fillet was every bit as good. This is another needless use of plastic.

I didn't really understand the comments at @4:42 onwards. I can see that there's a void underneath the OSB but why would that cause condensation ? There's no cold surface for moist air to condense on if the insulation is doing its job. I can see that there are gaps at the eaves of the roof which will lead to unwanted loss of heat, but those gaps will also give any moist air an easy path to escape. Those gaps should definitely be filled to prevent wasted energy, but I don't see any reason to be concerned about condensation. (Just a lowly DIY'er here, seeking to improve his understanding)
@roofingshiteroofing1189Ай бұрын
@@chrisf1600 don't really know how to explain other than cold air flowing under the insulation, means that it will meet hot air from the inside of the house. This causes condensation. To stop this the underside of the substrate need to be air tight.

This is a topic much worth revisiting Sir. The first square section nail you showed appeared to the camera to have a bit of a coppery glow in places, so I am not sure if it was ferrous or not (confirm with a magnet - on camera - if you revisit this subject). If the first nail was ferrous then it would most likely have been wrought iron, hence the square section shank, and wrought iron is hugely resistant to corrosion, as opposed to mild steel (as per the second nail) which rusts in no time without a protection system. The Galvanising itself can quickly chaff through around the slate hole area however and render the roof nail-sick, ultimately. If that first nail was indeed ferrous..... and wrought, it is unlikely it would even have been galvanised (or Sheradized, as it was initially called). Steel didn't really start to become cheaply available until around the 1860s when massive coke fuelled blast furnaces began to develop in the North East, Cumberland, and Scotland. Kind regards.

Hey guy, great video, thanks. May I ask a quick sports question? I’ve just had some guys put some slate (manufactured) on a vertical roof. Quite a few, where their angle cuts and inside window reveals are just glued. Is this good or acceptable work or should I insist that they were nailed/pinned. If you do reply, thanks a million

How come you say 24 degrees is pushing it? I thought slates could go low as 10 degrees, as long as you use larger size slates, and for sea conditions, is it not just a case of using thicker slates? Would be great to see some how to videos from you (if that’s something you would consider) please and thank you.
@roofingshiteroofing11896 ай бұрын
I would not slate below 22 degrees, even then I'm using a 500mm x 300mm slate with at least a 130mm head lap. On the west cost of Scotland this size slate is not ideal. I would have to get a speck in writing from the slate manufacture
