Gees, you totally got me !! On You Tube, the former Terra Transport catch my eyes. They´re was never green loco in NF (at least, that flashy green). Cool i click, wanting to see a modeling train. Well a bit deceptive. I want a "toy", not a real one ! It took me a few seconds to realise that it´s a " toy train" !! I think it´s a good proof of your modeling and filming talent ! Don´t be offusqued by "Toy" train word. Just the best oppose to "real" . But a bad sign for your railroad. Never a good sign to see pull up track just after the crossing....😅😅😅

I grew up <100 metres from the real H&SW line, family members worked on it for 70 years. So it's always special to see the roadname when featured in your videos. The implausibly plausible TerraTransport scenario remains such a brilliant concept!

Thanks - the Rail Exclusive speaker certainly helps, as does the resin shell (rather than injection moulded plastic). Realistically, the best sounding model I own I think. More special that it was hand made by me from the kit.

@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways4 күн бұрын
How do you mean? I think they’re difficult to curate - I’ve done it on Fancy Another Beer, but otherwise I try and avoid deliberate shadow as it usually betrays the size of the models or shows some other deficiency in your modelling abilities!

Over the holidays, I placed an impulsive order for a Farish N scale Gronk and a few two-axle wagons (tanks, hoppers, brake van). It's somewhere in transit over the Atlantic from Rails of Sheffield. Completely unexpected and unplanned, and definitely the result of the article in your 'Art of...' book about the venerable Class 08. Now, you've posted this wonderful video which has eliminated any possibility of buyers remorse. I can't wait! Thank you, James!
@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways4 күн бұрын
That is truly wonderful news! You will NOT be disappointed - apart from with the factory fit N scale couplings!
@CNR51544 күн бұрын
@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways In fact, the order also includes a 10-pack of Dapol magnetic replacement couplers, so any NEM factory rapidos will be swapped out straight away. Not that knuckles are prototypical either, but I know that I don't have your skills -- or patience -- to form and fit N-scale DGs.

Im not sure why this video got into my recommended but im glad it did. I want to learn about HO more. I have a HUGE O scale collection mostly Lionel/Atlas. I have no idea how to DCC stuff works i do have a DCC ho loco I bought once. it just sit on the self
@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways5 күн бұрын
DCC isn’t difficult, but it’s not cheap either! If you’re a collector it might not be for you, but if you can use HO to remain focused on a theme, and stick to that alone, a small shelf layout with 2-3 DCC sound locomotives could be a lot of fun.

Totally agree. Certainly, shunting in O gauge it is immersive. Adds a sense of gravitas to the models movement. IMO the future for me will be less models, but ones I do buy will be with sound chips and decent speakers. The next thought of course is will I need smoke?

I think that's what modelling railways is partially all about. Memories from years gone past and escapism into a world of no worries or cares
@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways6 күн бұрын
We will all use model railways in different ways. For me it isn't escaping, it's more 'finding myself' again. The connection or longing for the past is an artistic nuance that isn't exclusive to what we do, but it's interesting to reflect why we, as humans, do it... that said, their is a purity in this heartfelt emotion that I feel is missing in the hobby in general which is probably why I talk about it so much!
@SilverGear_6 күн бұрын
Looks like a fantastic model, and I look forward to its future appearances. I know what you mean when you mentioned a connection to that love of trains when you're greeted by a particular scene, locomotive or piece of stock, and that desire to recreate it in miniature.

Nice point to point switcher plan. Imagine doing that in N Scale. More room for structures, track and scenery.😀
@JamesHiltonCustomModelRailways10 күн бұрын
You’d loose the feeling of mass if you went in a smaller scale in the same space. I’d reduce the lot and do it in N in half the space. For me it’s about telling a story, and extra scenery wouldn’t add to that… thanks for watching thought Mike!
