I had some issues with the previous ~7ish chapters, but god damn I like this ending. Makes me all the more sad to see the general poor reception online. That's always been the case with JJK, a work that dares require more of its readers than the sea of over exposition and simplistic writing that is shonen media, but I can't help but feel it's such a pity. It isn't perfect, of course, and I'd say JJK as a whole has a decent number of flaws. It still goes deeper and works better than most.

The merger is specifically described as “the boundary between the souls of all non sorcerers being nonexistent”, with tengen as essentially a bonding agent. Mahito, and therefore kenjaku, theorize this will be the PHYSICAL merging of all non sorcerors- but certain interactions like toji’s return or yuki talking to the souls merged within tengen/kenjaku imply that this might be a misnomer. At minimum- every sorceror survives, yet it’s also completely possible the merger doesn’t change the forms of non sorcerors at ALL. Yuki’s book DIRECTLY stated that merged souls can never become one. Tengens merging process is not perfect, and doesn’t create a new being the way mahito’s technique is capable of, and kenjaku states that tengen would further evolve beyond already becoming more cursed spirit than physically human. Whether the merger/tengen became a physical being, or occupied that space between dreams and reality where cursed spirits exist- the ideas that the merger “couldn’t happen” or “would be edgy fanfiction where everyone dies” is a really sad way for discourse on this series to end. Chapter was great, but I couldn’t help but feel like sukuna/mahito convo is the sort of thing we could and should have gotten from the merger as a character. Or maybe detective critics narrator theory was simply too good of a headcanon.

I especially liked your point about Kurapika's goal being directly contradictory to the overarching message of the story that's personified by Ging, since Kurapika's goal is a dead end. I think it'd be really interesting if we got to see Ging and Kurapika interact to see that foil get expanded on since they have directly contradicting philosophies, which I haven't seen people talk about

I found an appreciation for the scratchy unfinished work you get to see through reading and learning abt hxh. I draw myself, so I always find that when I see someone I know for there amazing professional work put out artwork that is rushed, sketchy, unfinished and/or messed up I find a joy in it due to the relatability. There are times where I feel like my skill is not living up to what it should be, or I compare my output for a crappy 15min drawing session to actual finished professional work and it makes mle feel like I so bad at what I do. When I get to see someone's wip or sketch work it actually makes me feel stronger. Like this masterpiece-level artwork is within my grasp, if I keep grinding. A lot of these high expectations come from seeing such refined work and techniques without keeping in mind the effort and time put into them. My appreciation for Togashi is multi varied, with his peak scenes, his variability, and his complexity. But knowing of his human limitations, and being able to glimpse at that fills me with a lot of hope.
