Many people do not appreciate Bleach and believe that is a basic and simple Shonen because they only look at fights or other hype scenes but if you really take a deeper look and read between the lines you are truly able to comprehend Kubos excellent character writing and world building which is embedded in this fantastic and captivating story. One thing in Bleach that stands out for me is how many unique and complex characters there are and how each individual has their own philosophy and reason to fight. Plus the majority of the characters are dripped the hell out :)

As someone who has now read way, WAY too many bootleg xianxia/wuxia translations, I have gotten used to buddhist/daoist narrative arcs, and you're pretty much the only person I see who seems to grok those at work in Bleach. Kubo's incorporation of several spiritual philosophies in Bleach stands out to me now as one of the most interesting things about it.

The thing I don't think anyone has talked about with ulquiorra is his fight was never really with ichigo. His fight was always with orhime and her heart as a human and what it means to have a heart. In the end he found he had a heart as well. Ichigo even jokes to ulquiorra saying he's become more human like. Ichigo knew ulquiorra was effected by his talk with orhime. It's one of ichigo powers to understand people when he clashes swords with them. Ichigo sensed ulquiorra turmoil.

The bit with ulquiorra sharing his memory to aizen i feel like is very exactly ulquiorra. Unlike how every other arrancar informs aizen by mouth, ulquiorra knows that only something that can be seen or experienced is real and so by sharing his memories he can turn something that is not physical or objective into a completely factual and objective truth where aizen can infer whatever he will from said objectivity/truth

You did it, you made a good succint anime video essay. Pat yourself on the back. Thank you for putting respect on Kubo Tite the GOAT. And also for finding the connecting thread between two of the most important of Bleach's antagonists. Also thank you for verbalizing a feeling I had regarding what Ichigo 'is', he's a product of things defying logic for the better. People finding meaning in truly improbable conditions where the only constant of Ichigo's life is that the people guiding him or doing the actions that result in him, are doing 'the right thing'. Isshin may have been playing into Aizen's plans, but he never questioned what he was doing by becoming human and being with Misaki. He was doing the right thing.

Rly good video man. That last bit about the part of Yhwach inside Ichigo changing his goals seeing the world through Ichigos eyes really sticks out to me. Even though a part of Yhwach is inside Ichigo and every Quincy, their hearts are their own and that is something Ichigo would never cede to someone like him, even if he took away some of his Reishi, he is his own man. 13:23 I'd say that it's where Ulquiorra's heart would be, and he projects that location onto Ichigo by wounding him there, but everyone's heart is "in" a spot personal to them. Since the hole in a hollow's body is the the former location of their heart that emptied out and became their mask, each person's spiritual center and their heart is in a different spot, as we see with those various holes, even if that spot is very often in the chest.

Great great video man. On the topic of Uryu I would also say everything stemmed from his mother just like with Ichigo. I was thinking about how interesting it is that we learn about Uryu basically did everything he did for his mother rather then some tie to the Quincy or to even Soken. Because his mother represents the concept of a Quincy to him. He, just like ichigo lives with his mothers heart at all times on his shoulder. But he never mentions it. The story basically avoided every mentioning his mother until the tybw arc. The kanae always living in the shadow of Masaki thing is real...... I love her tbh. Uryu firing his mothers heart that was a secret weapon the entire story both figuratively and literally for Uryu. Also super interesting how Aizen Yhwach and even ginjo all are battles about how only you can defeat yourself. Anyway hopefully one day you make a video on Uryu (maybe with the next cour of tybw) cause I feel like Uryu has a lot to tap into with His dynamic with Ichigo, Soken, Ryuken, Yhwach, Jugram, and his relationship with his mother. I would say I have mostly positive feelings about the blatant change of emphasis in the tybw with that episode 14 dialogue talking about his mother and his feelings towards her. Super curious to see where that goes.

For all his power and trampling upon others in his campaign to achieve his death free world, Yhwach was fundamentally fearful of ending up as the Spirit King. He fears death for sure yet would rather be dead and buried than endure such a nightmare. It makes his final fate supremely ironic. Ulquiorra understanding the heart with Orihime's gentle imput in defiance of the hopeless emptiness he adheres to will always be a key moment of development for one of Bleach's characters, even if it was in his final moments.

I kneel. Only issue I have with Ulqiorra's heart thing is that I never understood how a bond even formed between him and Orihime. Because he was actively antagonistic I find it hard to understand. Even if in their final moments they understood eachother it's hard to believe that just from that he'd form a bond with Orihime. In the first place I'm not even sure if Orihime completely understood him to begin with. I just assume that's the case given her expression and her reaching out her hand. The act of which still doesn't make sense to me.
@SemekiIzuio
@SemekiIzuio 9 ай бұрын
Their bond was basically Ulquiorra trying to break Orihime into what he is, for her to despair for her friends for her loss, in some way for her to become like him and that would also validate his existence confirming his despair his lonliness that existed within all. He tried to do the same with Ichigo both failed both times. Orihime showed him that no he was wrong, he wasnt alone the heart exists between the bonds shared by others. Regardless of what Ulquiorra had done, Orihime in the last moments didnt look at him with hate or anything like that, she looked at him with kindness thus establishing a bond, the heart between them. Like how Ichigo said he felt Aizen wanted to not feel lonely, an equal, I think Ulquiorra was also searching for the heart even though his actions spoke otherwise. My thoughts anyways, I havent watched the full video yet.

In Bleach, another core ideology was concealed in the Yamamoto vs. Aizen battle. It's an underappreciated fight; I'm unsure if my thoughts hold value. I always regarded Ichigo and Yamamoto as the two primary foes or rivals Aizen sought. Aizen strategically placed two obstacles between them-Ulquiorra and Wonderweiss. Ichigo overcame his obstacle and became Aizen's perfect being, while Yamamoto failed due to his arrogance and patriarchal approach. He insisted on facing Aizen alone, neglecting involvement in other captains' fights. When Yamamoto declared himself the strongest shinigami, he ultimately lost

I think Yhwach was honestly right in the end. I hate the idea that you need death and pain in the world. You literally don't and all Yhwach was trying to do was get rid of it as he holds all of the memories of the people who touched him. He knew what they feared and how they felt and that's why what he was doing was inherently selfless. He didn't just do it for himself, he did it for all of the people that relied on him and believed in him, he saw all of them as his children. He wanted to get rid of something that everyone doesn't want. You can add a deep philosophy to it but in essence, death is not necessary and if you lost a loved one from this death, you'd know that it isn't the death that gives life meaning but that love with the person that made you keep going. Meanwhile Ichigo was fighting for this death that wasn't important to life at all. He was being inherently selfish in a way and he was fighting for the same people that wanted to use him and even kill him. Instead of getting rid of Squad Zero, one of the most evil sums of people in Bleach, he fought for them. This courage is not caused by life and death but is made up by love. Love is sacrifice and courage is made by love to help make you face those challenges to sacrifice making it inherently selfless. In my opinion, Yhwach filled this role better than anyone, he saw and felt more people die than anybody and he cared about those people as well as they were his children in a way. He wanted death to be gone cause of this fact, he was so willing to kill his people because he would bring them back once he got rid of death. Being stuck in a cycle of reincarnation and hell isn't very cool to me but Yhwach was the way out of those fates, he was the one who could change things and that's why he did it. Yhwach's my favorite character so I might be a bit biased. This video was amazing tho and much love.
