I like the mid trim on the Land Cruiser. I prefer the part time 4X4 of the 4Runner more ground clearance and off road gear. Have a Trailhunter on order. Do like the Land Cruiser dash better though. Not afraid of the turbo hybrid powertrain. We have a Rav4 Prime and we love it. Our 5th gen is nice but 10 years and 167,000 miles have taken their toll.
@kurtburkhardt58629 сағат бұрын
We have a 2014 Trail, the first year of the front end redesign. It looks just like yours, good choice. Ours has 167,000 hard miles and I have upgraded it a lot. Suspension, tires, siders, skid plates, dual batteries, lights, coms, fridge, roofrack, awning etc. We have gone off road and overlanded across the whole country. Last summer, we towed a travel trailer 6000 miles from the Midwest to the West and back. It is slow and ponderous when towing. We have a 6th gen Trailhunter on order. We may go with the GX 550 if the 4Runner isn't sufficient. We keep our vehicles a long time so we like the reliability. We have a Rav4 Prime that rocks (our 4th hybrid) so we are not afraid of hybrids or turbos. I guess we will see.

This is the first review on the 250 that accurately captures my 1st-hand experience. I traded my X7 M60i for a 2024 250 w/premium package, and have been completely satisfied for all 9000 miles so far...is it fast, no, but its certainly not slow. It also doesn't feel that cheap inside. I needed something with decent daily manners and with genuine off-road chops - the 250 checks that box, handily. It still messes with my mind that it can do so well on pavement/highways, while simultaneously breezing through rough unpaved forest service "roads." Its amazing how much more relaxing driving can be when you don't have to worry about curbing oversized luxury wheels...I currently have the 18s w/Nittos. Achieving the advertised mpg takes a bit of patience, because dipping in to the turbo too much ruins the MPG...I can reasonably avg 22-23. The one big gripe I have (as do most 250 owners), the gas tank is too small.

I’ve been looking at the new Land Cruiser for a while now, and my main concern seems to be not only price, but how complex the new engine + hybrid is. There’s more likely to go wrong and it’s expensive to fix these complex vehicles. Then you have the issue of using premium gas only. Not to mention the gas mileage doesn’t inspire any cost savings. I’m looking more at the Ford bronco sport, which is smaller but will do as much off-road and get much better gas mileage. And of course it will cost 25 K less. It will run on regular gas! Test drove one and I like it a lot!

People are comparing a much heavier 200 series to this 250 . Toyota purposefully engineered it to be a lighter car. .I had all the opportunity to buy a 200 series and even a LX 570 . My 250 feels nimble ,easy to park and fits in my garage . The 200 series was heavy ,big and cumbersome . The same drivetrain is found in the Lexus RX range . Works really well . My 250 is the 2,8 GD without HEV .Turbo lag sucks ,like in all diesel turbo engines . Rest is great

I have a 2024 First Edition. Prior vehicle was a 2018 Land Cruiser. If I’m completely honest, I wish I had my old rig back. This one was 79k, same price as my 200, but doesn’t seem to have the same build quality. The 4 cylinder engine is extremely annoying. No complaints about the hp and torque, however. Goes really well.
@MrKongpvuКүн бұрын
How can you say this is better than the GX550? Different tuning and marketing for luxury vs non luxury but just about same price! Same vehicle! And yes it's a LC. Don't know why you mentioned its not then instantly confirm it is. And you're crapping on other vehicles without comparing them objectively. Not impressed with this review. First time seeing you and I didn't like your review and how you conducted it with you opinions. No sub here.
@CarsNoCapКүн бұрын
Not the same price at all and not the same vehicle. Interior layout is very different, and this is a hybrid. The Gx550 I tested (top trim) was $90k. This is a top trim LC for $70k. I'm not saying its objectively better or worse but a vehicle is more than just specs and parts, its about the feeling of the sum of the parts and this LC was cohesive and comfortable. Don't be mistaken, I like the GX550 a lot.
@deus21614 сағат бұрын
They're actually not close to the same price when you actually pick the trims of similar capability. I'll take a chance on the turbo 4 over the tundra engine that is dying.

The Prado is basically LC-Lite. I think the overall design, inside and out, is a hit. It looks good. But that's kind of where the goodness ends. This thing has got a ton of really cheap plastic inside and out. At this price point, that's not good enough. I mean, my low-trim 2015 Ram 1500 has better materials in it. Then there's the rear seats...again, not good enough for a rig this size. I'm 6'2. My whole family is tall. If you're over 5'10, you're not going to fit comfortably in the rear seats. And then there's the Sienna minivan-based hybrid drive train. That's probably the biggest fail. The 4-cyl is rough, loud, anemic, and unrefined. The electric motor tries to make up for the lack of torque from the 4-cyl, but those max HP/TQ numbers don't happen until about 6000 RPM, which the ECU is going to make sure you never reach because it's trying to maintain fuel efficiency over everything else. So, you're not getting those power numbers. Nobody expects speed out of a rig like this, they want effortless power for over-landing, and this drive train does not have it. And Toyota's drive train reliability is in the toilet at the moment, so I wouldn't trust this. And all of the electronic off-road gimmickry is more annoying than useful. Had they put the manual transmission drive train from the Tacoma in this rig, it would have been 100% better. No rear battery adding weight and ruining rear cargo room, and you'd have actual control of the power band. Overall, this is a $35K truck with a $70K price tag. Feels more like a half-a$$ cash grab from Toyota based on the LC name.
@CarsNoCapКүн бұрын
Eh I Disagree, on a few points. This interior is way nicer than an old dodge ram..and this new LC reaches peak torque at 1700 rpm, so you do feel it. Agree on the price tag being high though.

Great review - love hearing it from someone with 4runner and gx experience. You are one of few people who talk about the "jittery" ride - I've driven a 1958 and regular LC250 now, and were taken by surprise how "crashy" the suspension felt over random broken pavement or bumps. All other reviews talk about how smooth or comfortable it was - I didn't experience that comfort at all. The crashy or jittery suspension is the opposite of smooth. That said, both drives had tires that were over inflated - so I blamed the tires, but maybe its just a real thing. I wish you had driven the new 4runner. From all accounts it seems by far like the best value and apparently very well put together and feels great from a road handling/suspension feel.
@CarsNoCapКүн бұрын
Thank you really appreciate the feedback! I'm hoping I will have my time in the new 4R soon, just waiting to get it scheduled! But yeah I find the TNGAF platform to be very rigid and I've heard the Toyota engineers say that was by design. I think I prefer a little bit of softer platform in body on frame vehicles, but this platform is still pretty good.

@v.t.4338Күн бұрын
It is smaller in the interior, when you measure door to door, even aremrest, etc even though exterior dimensions are close to one another how does this work out. Look at the fenders and body though the exterior fenders are same width the actual body doesn’t start until 3-4” in front the fenders. There is a video somewhere where they measured door to door

MTS only controls how much wheel speed the car allows to happen. If you're in sand or mud mode, it's going to allow more wheel spin, because that's what you need in those situations. Lower wheel speed will happen in rock setting. Can't fault the MTS here, it did exactly what it was programmed to do in the setting you put it in

@1:41 I believe the 4-Runner doesn't technically have a Center Differential. The locking of differential occurs within the Transfer Case, as opposed to the GX, where a Center Diff is locked either via the TorSen system or the manual Center Differential activation button. I could be wrong, I am still trying to learn my 2014 GX 460.

Toyota should either provide a nanny mode that makes the vehicle behave like Subarus, with users requiring nothing more than throttle and brake. Or, Toyota should provide a warning label "vehicle is not for dummies". Why should I be required to understand vehicle mechanics to figure out how to get the vehicle out of of a stuck situation. It should just work. I mean, even professional cameras have an auto mode, so why can't enthusiast vehicles have nanny mode?

This is how the Torsen differential works. If the torque difference between the front and rear axles is not significant, the Torsen differential will allow for differential, after all, it is a differential. Moreover, the Torsen differential can only perform limited slip and cannot lock itself. So in order to achieve a front and rear axle speed of 50:50, you need to lock the center differential lock. The difficulty of the pulley system in the video is obviously not that hard. GX550 does not need to lock the central differential lock, as long as you are not stingy with your right foot and step on the gas pedal.
@CarsNoCap6 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Agreed but I gassed it hard on the rear wheel test and it still did not transfer power to the front, it needed the center locked. Interestingly the new land cruiser performed a little different, will post the results soon
