That dip in the mids on the Suhr RL actually makes a huge difference, especially with an American-voiced amp with 6L6's (i.e. Mesa/Boogie). It gets really scooped in the mids, boomy in the bass, and harsh in the treble. This might sound good while playing solo, but it just gets buried in a mix. The low end gets all muddied up with the actual bass, the mids don't cut, so the harsh screechy/fizzy frequencies stand out more. The Fractal X-Load is much better than the SRL. It has more depth and dimension, a little closer to how the DI sounds with an actual speaker connected for the load. And it has US and UK voicings. The Rivera Mini Rock Rec is a lot flatter: more mids, less bass, darker, kinda boxy. The DI -> IRs sounds best with speaker(s) still connected, but that defeats the purpose of silent recording. Reactive load technology still isn't up to par with real speakers, but of these 3, the X-Load is the closest (though still quite different). I haven't tried the Captor yet, but will probably pick one up soon. I think that seemingly small difference in the midrange will make a big difference in a mix.

My power supply brick has 9v 300mA ports and 9v/12v/18v switchable ports that are 500mA. Will the 12v 500mA switchable port be okay to use? The reason i ask is, in the video the 12v port has 300mA. I really dont want to cook my MIJ HM-2 and i dont know much about voltage and milliamps.

Amazing pedal, been using for 5+ years. It sounds close to Marshall amp sound (jcm 900 is the closest I think), The key is the volume on the pedal should be at least at 50% (the pedal does not have a ton of gain). Also freq and countour controls are really versatile, you can reduce or add low frequencies depending on the guitar you playing

technically you can, so guitar into boost into zoom. However I don't know if this will sound good because the zoom was not designed to take a pedal in front of it.

Great demo - but to show the bass-range you need to crank the depth first: it's like our cut control but inverted. Meaning at fully CCW you'll get a low cut at almost 800hz making it tight but thins out the bass. Fully it let's the whole range through and gives the bass control full effect - it goes into ridiculous territories even with the active 16dB bass boost 😁

Im thinking the comp may come into play more when you are cranking that low end-might stop some of that big bloom you get on ringing chords. I was surprised how well it played into a driven channel. Daniel is the man!
@danielringl850111 күн бұрын
The comp is basically a blend between different clipping styles: LED to Germanium with all in between settings - this way it works great as a fuzzy distortion (fully CCW), classic Big Muff style (noon) and even low gain overdrives (fully CW) :)

This pedal brings back many memories for me. I was about 13 years old and it was my Birthday. My Mom took me to a used gear shop and let me pick out a pedal...(probably 1987 ish...yeah I'm old.) Anyway, I picked this one. I had sooo much fun with that pedal. I had no idea what I was doing or what the knobs meant, but I felt like a guitar god when I plugged into my Crate amp at home and chugged some drop D riffs. Sounds pretty damn good! I'm guessing it's not fully digital. Probably analog distortion section with some ancient DSP for the chorus and delay.

I like the three band equilizer section, but more bass would be fine. The boost function is great. It's not really a doom pedal, but I like it. I have to try it...
@danielringl850111 күн бұрын
You should definitely try it - it's for sure not lacking bass when played into a high headroom amp: it has the big bass of a muff style pedal and the active bass control can add another 16dB to it. In fact it has so much bass it's getting ridiculous - given the amp can take it (which most modelers can't due to the limited headroom of 3.3-5V due to A/D-conversion in contrast to 300(+)V in a tube amp :)
@Paul_Lenard_Ewing12 күн бұрын
I am impressed. I write and only play my own material and borrow and blend all Metal styles. I might flat pick the verse with a low gain pedal and then use Doom like power cords for the chorus etc. The thing about this pedal it sacrifices beyond stupid gain in favor of leaving in some rich harmonics to give a detailed tapestry in the mids. Dare I say it? It simply has tone instead of only might!!

I actually have the earlier blue version of this pedal from the mid 90s. It works great as a boost with the gain at zero. As a distortion my one reminds me of the old Marshall Guv'nor. This one seems different somehow, need to get one & compare.
@vestebansbloodbox313014 күн бұрын
I recently got one of these for $45. I figured why not. It’s ended up being my main distortion. The key for me was lowering the bass since it’s so punchy, but you can actually get a really nice and smooth distortion out of it (granted it only does high gain!).

"How many tube screamer clones are we going to see? How much money are you going to waste buying the same tube screamer clone over and over and over and over again? I say no more, Excise it like a boil." LOL. The schematic has been posted online. (its a tubescreamer with a google search result for 3 band eq)
@VoidManufacturing9 күн бұрын
Clearly you have no clue what a Non inverting op amp input stage is. Or, that its the building block of pretty much...every single overdrive pedal , and in some cases, every pedal or gain stage ever. The tube screamer comparison is null. What part of this pedal has a 650HZ mid hump? Nowhere. Where does a tube screamer have a 3 band EQ? Nowhere. Is the EQ from like similar to a 3 band graphic EQ in design? Yes, Because I like how it sounds in this design. But it isnt a simple "search" for an eq. You know who else uses a 3 band GEQ style control? Oh, I dunno....Peavey, Mesa, VHT, Carvin, list goes on. Go cry about and criticize that, if its such a big deal, but you wont. Where does a tube screamer have the internal voltage boost this does? Nowhere. You look like a fool the longer this goes on. Your OCD obsession with me is pathetic honestly. In fact, because I dont care. I will share the factual schematic myself this week along with a few others.

range is interactive with grip, its a variable value that changes the gain for mutes/stops. It is most noticeable into a real tube amp, which is what it was designed for. Left switch, enrage is clipping removal. Lotta people like this one driving a high gain 100w+ amp, its on a few notable albums/ live rigs. Vitriol for one, Kyle swears by this pedal.
