Am I thinking about this the wrong way? I consider this to be primarily an insulating mid layer between my base and my shell. If it’s too hot, then I switch out to a fleece as my mid layer. In other words, I worry much less about the toughness of the outside fabric and much more about its breathability. 20 D seems right in line with all the other similar jackets in its class. Lastly, as to those who criticize Patagonia for their prices, the critics must not be gear gurus. There are WAAAY more companies that charge more for equivalent products. Think Canada Goose!!

You can’t beat the alpine, one of my favorite places. This summer I’m hoping to run/fastpack a few Sierra classic loops, one being the Evolution Loop. Not sure if I’ll Bivy or just run the entire loop. Cheers Chad

I love Patagonia but was disappointed that they asked me if I wanted to recycle my item if it couldn’t be fixed. I wasn’t offered any money either towards a new product. I’ve been loyal up till now, can’t see why I would continue to buy Patagonia anymore. This might be a UK policy. Hope the USA holds on to the Iron Clad Guarantee.

Hey Andy! I noticed that you subscribed to my channel (THANKS!) so I thought that I'd stop on by and check out some of your videos/channel. I just subscribed! One of my first backpacking trips was up Longs Peak where my brother in-law and I camped at Boulder Field, then summitted Longs the next morning. It was so awesome! A run that I really enjoy is to run from Lily Lake up the back side of Longs/Boulder Field via Boulder Brook, maybe check out Chasm Lake, and then run down the Longs Trail to Eugenia Mine Trail/Estes Cone Trail/Storm Pass Trail back to Lily Lake.

Chad, thanks for checking out the channel! I’ve followed you for quite some time, I think you commented on my Never Summer 100k video. Anyway, that run looks like a good time. I’m out in CA (Eastern Sierra) for winter and spring for now so you can expect some video from out here. Cheers!

Chouinard's original 1963 AAJ comment was that the Valley had few easy climbs. Chouinard's article was reproduced in Rowell's Yosemite book. Yvon also said that the climbing was "not particularly aesthetic . . .merely hard. " If you want to experience easy Yosemite climbs, climb at Tahquitz first. Dozier was not only a climbing partner, but he was my #2 PhD advisor who recently died from injuries from being hit by a UPS truck at Reno Airport.

It's a great jacket and I love everything about it, but I really really hate the hand warmer pockets. Where I'm at up here in AK I use it for 40 to -15, and as a photographer doing my thang in the cold I NEED hand warmer pockets that fit a mans hands not a toddlers hands. Hand warmer pockets are `not big enough, and this thing is supposed to be a belay jacket...? I'm really bummed because again I really do love the jacket but my hands barely fit in the bottom hand warmer pockets, not to mentioned they're not lined at all, so with my landscape/seascape photography it creates a major problem, and forces me to wear thin gloves when I shouldn't have to. So bottom line one of thee greatest jackets ever made but the hand warmer pockets are a joke and are too small. Peace
@AndyOnTheMountain24 күн бұрын
I completely agree with you on the toddler sized hand pockets, they are annoying. I'm not sure why Patagonia did this. I also very much dislike the synch cord for the waist in the hand pockets.. One thing I like about the Fitz Roy down jacket is the huge hand pockets but also the chest and internal pockets. Maybe they will upgrade the Das Parka in the future. Cheers

The "ventilation" on these and many other so called trekking/hiking trousers is a joke. Having no mesh on the inside of the vent means that tics and any other crawly/flying insects can easily gain access to bite/sting your legs. The breathable mesh to cover these vents is cheap and light, so adding it should not add much to either the cost or weight of the pants and would not affect the ventilation much either. If I am going to have to spend over €200 on hiking trousers then they should offer protection against insect bites & stings and not make it easier for this to occur.

hardcore. boulder field under the keyhole. nice. did you have major condensation issues in the bivvy?
@AndyOnTheMountain3 ай бұрын
Possibly an addiction to that mountain. Oh ya, tons of condensation. I had a 30 degree Western Mountaineering sleeping bag with a 50 degree synthetic quilt over top of it. The quilt protected the down quite well from the condensation tho. The bivy is definitely a love/hate thing. Do you like them?

Correct, 800 fill down which I corrected myself on the clip after I mentioned 850 fill 😌 Also, I’m not sure on how much down is in the jacket. I’m sure if you contact Patagonia they could tell you. I can say that the jacket is warm and I’m still using it. I’ve had it on a 3 day trip with temps around -15, kept me warm. Cheers
