Was it actually necessary to remove the top hat? Couldn’t you just have removed the center nut and it would have brought the whole assembly down? Great video might tackle this on my x3. I assume it’s similar
@accelerated_motion2 күн бұрын
Not completely necessary to remove the top hat. The center nut is what matters the most. I removed just in case I needed more clearance when swinging the entire assembly out. But since I removed the plastic wheel wells, it was plenty of room. Imagine the X3 will be a similar process, so I would leave the top hat in place. Not a big deal to remove though, only 4 external torx bolts.

It definitely feels weird if its your first time pulling an axel out. Fortunately, Ive experienced it before on previous cars, so I know how it feels and how to put it back into place. I like the stance better on the AST springs, as they go lower than the KW HAS. However, I think the KW HAS feels better. A little less jarring than the AST. But both are great options. AST springs are obviously a cheaper option, so there are multiple factors at play.

Once the calipers are installed, press the brake pedal a few times until firm, this pushes the pistons back out until the pads contact the disc in the normal way. Then they should retract a little, as is normal with the action of the square cut seal, when you let go of the pedal. Then, engage the parking brake as normal. It will stop itself as normal, once it meets resistance. HTH

The new interior install looks awesome! You mentioned a newborn. If you don’t mind my asking, what’s the child car seat experience like with an M3? Installation, ride comfort for the baby, how far up do driver/passenger seats have to be etc. Also, does a rear facing child car seat fit decently in the back with the comfort seats rather than the bucket seats?
@accelerated_motionАй бұрын
Very good question! Car seat fits well, but the front passenger seat needs to be pushed forward a bit. Its honestly the same as my wife's G01 X3M40i. My baby loves the G80 though. She likes all the loud exhaust noise and she still has no problem falling asleep if need be. I would say the amount of room with a rear facing child seat is the same regardless of the seats being comfort or buckets. I did not notice a difference in space between the two.

Wheel spacers are bad for wheel bearings
@accelerated_motionАй бұрын
Wheel spacers won't damage wheel bearings. In fact, they are no different from a wheel with less backspacing. In other words, spacers cause no more damage than offset wheels. As long as they fit properly and are correctly torqued, there will be no issues.
