I think most people should do strength mobility work and assessment before a bike fit. You can't put a price on comfort but comford shouldn't be reserved for the rich.

More aero doesn't always mean faster. You have to be able to make power and hold the position. Kinda useless. Sorry.

It’s not useless, wind tunnels aren’t useless and they test what position is faster without putting out power. Always good to know what position makes you faster, would be silly not to test it really

Yeah I second the comment about over thinking, and I say that from a place of understanding. Try to get your head straight about why you actually enjoy training and being fit af. It's not rocket science. It doesn't require the level of analysis you go into. It's simply about being a fing warrior and feeling awesome. If you can enter that mindset, like the stuff David goggins talks about, then the issues that arise from over thinking just disappeares. There's a great yt ch called fuel the mind, with a great playlist of goggins motivational speeches. Try it and see if you get back in the groove. 🤘

Hey Mate, from a random dude on the internet. Completely understand what your going through, this is normal in the cruel mistress that is triathlon. Don't let this get you down, this is just a small bump in the road of a already very successful tri journey. I've had some similar issues in the past and my advice to you would be, to take a step back from the sport. Go out for a run without a plan or a HR Monitor, go for a ride to a cafe and eat good cake, swim in the sea and just enjoy it. While you're doing this seek out physio's and bike fit specialists, but remember always stay positive. Trying to still smash in the sessions when your heads just not in it wont work. They will be other euros and big IM events to attend and smash mate. When I had a pretty low spell in the sport I took a massive step back and just surfed loads, I know you do as well so don't forget that. Give yourself a mental break by doing things like surfing and not being so focused on why sessions aren't going as you've planned. Hope this helps fella, keep your chin up and one day I'd love to race/train with you. 🤙

Thank so much for this comment dude, I really really appreciate it! Sometimes I think it’s so easy to get wrapped up in performance and you forget why you do it in the first place! Good effort. I used to get alot of stictches. I had to up my salt intake and it helped massively. I eat plenty of salt in the weeks lead up and then a few salt tablets on race day. Im a huge sweater 🙈
@LewisFordham
@LewisFordham 3 ай бұрын
Thank you dude!! Yeah I think that’s the most likely cause of the issue, some sort of dehydration/lack of salt! I can tell because it gets worse the more dehydrated I seem to get, I’ve started doing some testing so fingers crossed I get it sorted! 😂

Brilliant effort. Everyone is different who suffers from stitch. I suffered for 10 years & got to the point where I couldn't eat or drink for 90mins pre race. I then started taking antacids at the end of the bike, which made me burp & helped a lot 😂. I've also found I'm better with a bit of solid nutrition in me. Basically fluid sloshing causes wind & stitch for me 🤷
@LewisFordham
@LewisFordham 3 ай бұрын
That’s something I’ve not really considered actually! I always use fluids/gels for nutrition, might have to try using some more solids and see if that helps! Seems to be a bit of a guessing game haha!

Thanks mate! I’ve got the nopinz ones, if I’m completely honest, I can’t really tell a difference but the difference if it is making one is likely so small it would be hard to tell without a wind tunnel! @LewisFordham
@LewisFordham 3 ай бұрын
Yeah it is really weird, I find it weird that I only get it on brick runs, never on normal runs. I have found that it’s worse the harder I run off the bike as well. I’ve got a feeling it could be dehydration causing it as I’m terrible at staying hydrated at the best of times let alone running off of a bike! Plus if it gets worse the harder I run off the bike I can only assume it’s my body struggling to cope with something when I push it, going to experiment with it a bit I think and see if I can find out!
@keelanpywell
@keelanpywell 3 ай бұрын
Yes mines exactly the same the harder the effort the worse it is! Maybe dehydration as I did get it bad in mile 24 of a marathon and that’s the only time I’ve had it not on a brick run but I was probably dehydrated then too. Someone said it could be down to core strength too so I’ve been trying to add more core workouts in too. Just got to keep experimenting. Love the channel btw!

Great summary. God made our feet to work beautifully just the way they are. With that said, there was no concrete or asphalt in the Garden of Eden so the extra bit of cushion from the Altra's helps. I run in both Vivo's and Altra's and use them as you have described. My observations are identical. One thing I will say is that if you buy the trail style runners from Vivo like the Primus Trail's (I have the SG sole on mine), the extra tread depth acts as extra cushioning and can be a hybrid between the Vivo Primus Lite and the Altra Escalante.

MTSS injury - overuse. I might be wrong. That'd be my guess. Id recommend a physio. Use a bread scraper to massage the muscle, reduce load. Strengthen with some heal lifts.

Your likely describing a tear with inflammation - at least for now. It could easily become a rupture without recovery and treatment. You're looking at 2-6 weeks recovery from a tear compared to 2-6 months recovery from a rupture.

@@LewisFordham If there is one thing I would tell my younger self, it is this: "The body will heal when it heals and no amount of wishful thinking or planned schedule will change that fact." The psychological impact of an injury to an athlete is sometimes the most difficult part of an injury. An important fact that most doctors fail to understand. As a result, many athletes feel isolated and ignored when it comes to "down-time" and its emotional impact. Psychologist called this the "denial stage". The sooner an athlete jumps from denial to acceptance, the faster the recovery. This is also where obsessive compulsive behavior or commitment (< take your pick) (of which, athletes have a heavy dose) becomes either an asset or a liability. The obsessive behavior and commitment it takes to be a successful athlete is what makes an athlete perform better but is also an athletes downfall when injured ... UNLESS ... the athlete flips the obsessiveness toward compulsive recovery rather than simply compulsive training. Good Luck... and, I hope it is only a minor niggle. Fingers Crossed.

I know, I was the exact same hence why I spent months trying to figure it out myself! After getting a fit myself, the best place to start I think is getting the saddle height correct, and if in any doubt, go on the low side rather than high! Moving the saddle forward helped a lot for me as well, but I’m no bike fitter so my advice might not be best haha!

@@LewisFordham Hey, I am pretty sure this problem stems from lack of mobility in the hips and instability. Look for PAILs and RAILs for hip rotation. And also do Glute Medius exercises, which helps with the stability. After that, your "longer leg" should be in a proper place and the imbalances should go away. Good luck.
