It has been a while since I saw any of your videos, and now I have 5-6 to watch in a row, because YT apparently doesn't think I like you. Yours is the closest channel that I have found to blend a prepper/survival and historic/anachronistic mindset, which I kind of want to do myself. So much stuff was built to last 100+ years ago, and yet I only find stuff in the larp category that is not real durable. Why is that?
@AnachronisticArmory569

Yeah the algorithm hates me... getting new viewers currently just does not happen like at all. And retaining viewers is impossible because KZbin and people don't like me very much it seems. And to answer your question; It's because the stuff in the larp category doesn't last long +they can be SO EXPENSIVE!!! Ebay and etsy are nice, and Burgschneider is some of the best but again expensive. So I've had to look hard on reenactment sights, ebay/easy, make stuff, or even Amazon. When I look for things on Amazon, I almost never look for costume pieces. I look for modern stuff that I can edit myself. Because costume stuff suck.

Those gloves are the same type I wore during my time in Army Aviation 😎 I would recommend some soft leather gloves with gauntlet cuffs for a more authentic look. Save the heavier green blanket cloke for winter operations👍 Have you considered painting your bow In a pho-wood paint job? Keep up the good work.

That was a pretty cool video and very informative. I was going to suggest you hit Shad up and show him this video because he seems to have trouble carrying a bow. The quiver method that you use keeps the bow away from the sword as well. I think if I ever start carrying a bow, I'd use your quiver wrap around method. That seems to be most effective. Thanks for the tips.

I'm used to using a hand and a half sword so don't use a shield. However, I've considered getting a full sized shield for when I use my knightly sword. I haven't practiced with sword and shield so that's an area I lack in. I've thought about getting a buckler as well but feel like a larger shield or dagger would be more balanced for me. Nice job on cleaning up the rust on your buckler. Keep doing what you are doing and follow your dreams.

This makes me wonder what one might use as a rust preventative 🤔 Rustoleum? You might try baking soda instead of baking powder to see if that helps in removing general stains. You'd add a bit of water to the bs to form a paste. Disclaimer: not an expert in rust removal, just thoughts! Do you like storytelling? Legends, superstitions of the times could be interesting. Switching it up might help squash the boredom blues 😊

That's a great idea! Maybe a strap with a quick-release function at the lower part of the quiver (some kind of knot or phisical obstacle, like a stick, that holds itself but with a bit of force gives out) could be useful for holding the bow more securely and pulling it out in case of urgency.

Hey, maybe some improvement ideas I have noticed. It was not very common to wear a padded gambeson UNDER a maille shirt. Gambesons in this time were mostly single pieces of armour so you would wear either a gambeson or a maille shirt. A linen shirt and a thick wool overcoat were usually enough for a maille shirt to sit comfortably. The gambeson you showed also has buckles which is more of a modern reproduction thing. 12th century gambesons were pull over shirt pieces without any front opening. Later they started to develope cloth buttons or lacing (for example the famous pourpoint of Charles de Blois). Talking about the maille in the 12th century it was more common to see full sleeve length Haubergeons with an integrated mitten covering the hands and sometimes an integrated coif. Maille hosen were also already thing especially in the later half of the 12th century. Maybe some hauberks were still used depending on what region a crusader came from, but wealthy knights could usually afford a full haubergeon. You asked about the surcoat you wear. So the red cross over black ground is usually associated with a knights order. For example the Knights Templar, the Knights Hospitaller, the Order of Saint James, Teutonic Order etc. I sadly don't know which Order a red cross over black belongs to tho. But it has nothing to do with any ranks in the army. As far as I know for identification it was more common to wear knee length surcoats in a single colour on the battlefield. If you need a good inspiration for 13th century armour and clothing (I know its 100 years later but a lot of the depictions are nearly identical to what was also worn in the late 12th century) you can look up the Morgan Bible. The entire manuscript is free to look at online with beautiful and colourful illustrations.
