I like my privacy but I like for criminals to get caught in more. Appropriate rules needs to be put in place so that noone can abuse it, but talking about filters isn't that a tool to make a search targeted instead of general? If they had only put in the coordinates of the victim's property I think it wouldn't have created this uproar of the 5th. Anyway here from UK always learning something new, thank you

I heard once “A wise man knows when to stop”. I wonder at what point our society will say stop and realize that some, while cool or convenient, is ultimately another step towards our demise.

I just happened across this and was shook to my core. Thank you for you accuracy! Jack Larkin is my brother-in-law. First off:To the victims family,I can not even express my DEEPEST CONDOLENCES!! My opinion,Jack and Sam got what they deserved! I am absolutely disgraced at what they did to ALL involved! I myself have lost 2 son's. And know the grief, personally,that events can cause. So trust me when I say, your families are in my prayers! I know,there is no words!

How is this similar or not similar to getting phone service provider to give LE a list of phone numbers for a specific area? Move an inch away from our constitutional rights, next time it’s a mile. IMO it’s what is best for the greater society. We start living based off of rules better for to convict, we lose our freedoms.

Excellent episode and extremely interesting considering what we are seeing recently. My stance on privacy is likely unlike many and that is that I generally don’t care what people see of mine, but then I don’t feel I have anything to hide and my mentality is that why would anyone actually care that much unless they have something to hide…. I know in reality there are other things at play here with regards of privacy and people’s rights to privacy but it is, in my opinion, a very dangerous precedent to set that we may not be able to effectively track and solve murders because Dave doesn’t want anyone to know he sent his sexy neighbour a dick pic 😂…. Let’s be honest, that’s what this is about. People generally only care about their privacy when it suits them to do so and if you sat down with any decent person and ran this scenario through with them on how the system works and why…. would they complain? I bet they wouldn’t if the suspect lived near them. Who knows, maybe I’m slightly narcissistic or an exhibitionist…. I just don’t care who sees what I have and that’s without a possible murder in the mix.

Digital data privacy is super sketchy these days. I've tried to give to other channels a case but no one seems to wants to cover. Would love to here your thoughts on "FTC v KOCHAVA INC". There's approximately 4 case files on the FTC website. It mostly a case about the sale and use of geolocation data among other sensitive information. The latest 41 page document was filed on 7/15/24. I believe the first was filed in Aug of 2022. They basically claim they can get around anonymous ID to identify pretty much anyone and link their different devices together also.

Everyone should have their DNA taken at birth and be chipped and monitored. Shouldn't matter if you have nothing to hide. If a crime is committed then LE can catch the bad guy this way. Saving one life trumps privacy. Carry on.

I don’t disagree with that concept - at all! But, what I do disagree, or rather don’t trust, is overzealous enforcement of BS crimes using this technology. For example, after watching the insane reaction to Covid mandates imagine a world where you are being tracked because you went to a family birthday party for your 65 year old aunt with a fatal cancer diagnosis. It will be abused and there is the real issue at hand - not the legitimate cause for the tech, the abuse that will follow. ~ Sy

Does this give grounds to overturn convictions that were based on evidence discovered during geofencing or tower dumping? Is it time to set a force/government body of some type to help catch the law up with technology? I can imagine there is one presidential candidate that would support reforms and one that wouldn't 😉

Question.. If you have a warrant to search someone’s house and they have a locked safe can you search the safe without a separate warrant? Thanks 😁💙
@SocialiteCrimeClub
@SocialiteCrimeClub 19 сағат бұрын
Depends - am I looking for something that could be in the safe - example, search warrant is for a gun - yes, I can even take the safe if I have to in order to get it opened. Now, search warrant is for a gun and I find the gun in a dresser drawer - no - because I have the item I came for. Or - the search warrant is for stolen tires and a catalytic converter- those can’t fit in the safe so I can’t search the safe. ~ Sy

Yeah - talking about known cases that are on the internet is the silly part, not the fact someone is dumb enough to try and rob a US Government Postal truck. Not sure about the desperate part, my experience is not so desperate as lazy and looking for what appears to be an easy grab. Also in my experience, they are 0 - 4 in this cases I am aware of - so don’t do it- you will get caught and go to prison.

There are a number of channels on YT covering historical Cold Cases where investigative Genealogy has tracked down criminals, but also identify Jane & John Does, from distant relatives who have used Genealogy sites & have then been interviewed by LEOs to further narrow down the person they're trying to identify by filling in more of the family tree. Further investigations are still needed to determine which, for examole, of a number of brothers, is the person of interest. If these relatives haven't opted out of data use, & are happy to speak to Police to help identify a violent criminal who might be a distant relative, there is no issue of any breach, although the criminal might try to claim so, because it wasn't 'their' DNA data that has been used, but a relative who was happy to help. I would assume any criminal knowing there's a possibility they might have left DNA at a crime scene, especially for crimes committed before DNA profiling was a thing, isn't going to use a Geneology site themselves, so it's less likely any DNA data used would be directly from the person of interest & far more likely to continue being that of a relative, so the person of interest's house remains untouched, they have no grounds for complaint if their relatives have happily opened their front door & invited the Police in! 😈

Agreed 100%. But…, it’s when the process is not transparent and LE refuses to identify how they made the link. In your example there is no reason not to show your work (we all learned in 5th grade math you have to show your work). So the problem here arises when that work is kept secret and the standard is “trust us”. I support legitimate and transparent IGG - I do not believe we should “trust” the process blindly as I know the “creativeness” LE will go to in order to find a bad guy. We have to play by the rules or we loose capabilities - abuse it = loose it.

As a Brit, what I notice most about people's concerns about the use of this data is that Americans appear to have a healthy level of paranoia that their data will be misused by Law Enforcement or the Government. I can't see any more issue with a "filter" type search that LEOs watching hundreds of hours of CCTV footage to see if any people or vehicles appear in an area around the time of a crime. I have no issue with Law Enforcement doing any filter searches where my information is anonymised & I also wouldn't have an issue providing a DNA sample to prove I wasn't responsible for a crime, especially when it involved a close family member. Knowing I will never commit a crime, I'd have no issue with my DNA profile being stored in a National database, or for the Police to have access to any information that would prove my innocence; it seems those with the biggest concerns about access to their data may also have guilty consciences!

Thank you for the comment - and I agree. With that said - I can’t pass up the opportunity to poke fun, not at you but the opportunity (love you, just having fun here)- the irony of a Brit pointing out the paranoia of Americans as it relates to government oversight. No matter where you fall on the subject that is funny.
