Великие дирижёры 50-х 60-х, ну и оркестры звучали соответственно...тоже , как великие, пока не услышали , и не увидели настоящих ВЕЛИКИХ! Да и просто заурядных, но западных, которые дают фору нашим "великим"--на раз!

Never heard of him. I guess he was primarily a Soviet academic conductor and I can't recall ever seeing a Western recording by him, unlike, say, Mravinsky. But this is a nice, robust performance.

Thank you for posting. I cannot listen to this beautiful music, dating from 1910, without feeling immense sadness at the dreadful catastrophe that was to overtake Europe four years later.

There is a gap in the brass section. Did he not notice? Also, the tone of the oboe is the same as that of Mravinsky / Leningrad, and it is a tone that is too long and has no intelligence.

Adieu Queen Jessye. En récital et particulièrement dans ces années là, la voix et l'interprétation étaient vraiment extraordinaires. Quelle soirée ! Les spectateurs du festival d'Aix doivent encore s'en souvenir....

La sua divinità africana che la caratterizzava sia nei gesti sia nell glamour regale ;credo contenesse il meglio di ciò che una Voce divenuta strumento di Armonie sovrane potesse esprimere...la sua infinita malinconia.....e un viso di una bellezza senza pari....oggi godrà della festa che gli angeli e i musicisti e Tutto il Paradiso le avranno preparato in Cielo. Chapeau Madame Jessye...sperando di arrivare dove è andata lei.

I had the great luck of being at the Cour de l'Archevéché in Aix-en-Provence in 1984 to listen to her, a great evening, very moving... what I remember of her is her joy and incredible generosity to sing for others. Quite a star indeed, a real one, but as well it was amazing how simply giving and natural she was... ;-)
