Little late to this but stumbled across the channel today and I already love it. Talking about all the things we're up against every day at my garage but also providing a heap of inspiration knowing that we arent the only ones with certain challenges. Got a transporter clutch and flywheel to do this sunday so I'll be sure to consume and catch up on the 6 months ive missed out on. Henry - a busy idiot.

Hi guys, great podcast yet again, wish I could listen in one go, have you utilise the journey to work. What I think would be good is maybe the next review, let us know what was the one biggest challenge you had over the last 6 or 3 months depending on when you do the next one. Thanks Andy

How is Leo so relaxed and laid back!! Listening to everything he has going on was stressing me out!! I thought I had a lot going on in my life but this man's life is hectic!! The man is an absolute legend and a machine who doesn't seem to be phased by anything!! 😂😂

I run a small independent garage in a village and are currently extending the garage but we are really finding it hard to get staff and in the local areas it seems lots of garages are looking for staff. How do u guys find staff and do u find it hard in your areas ?

Sometimes if we see a car that we don't recognise driving through to the carpark at work, we note the reg and them we check the name of the customer before they walk in the office. Then as they walk in we say " Hi Mr/MRS so and so " and the look at their eyes is like, hell how do you remember my name! That leaves a great impresion!

The Mini lads are awesome.. I generally pile all my car problems on them lol. And as much as they have a really good set up, there's actually a much cooler workshop a few units down from theirs. 😅

This is a great looking workshop, the service/vhc videos we have used since May 2020, it’s probably the most popular feedback we get still to this day, more customers mention this in conversation over anything else. It’s such an important tool to show transparency to a customer. Great jobs guys both on the ramp and The mini shop 👍🏻

loving the content and the cast, currently getting through them on spotify. Workshop looks well setup! Going too steel your pigeon hole idea saves messy part's shelf and time rifling through them! We have not long started using the garage hive management system and has had a good impact on the business so far. Keep it rolling!

When I worked for a Vauxhall dealer, they used to refer to service advisors as "aftersales consultants"... Sounded a little more glamorous! 😂

31:54 these podcasts and the Garage Hive community is truly amazing. I felt alone before GH, and wouldn’t still be working in our family garage without it. I don’t think the garage would have survived without it!

Love this, can't wait to see more. I think the perfect set up in five years time will be a MOT centre with basic EV servicing (brakes, fluids and filters) alongside a tyre centre.

This Martin chap is due a few beers - without knowing the figures involved even it sounds like he recognised this young man’s talents very early and they have both ended up benefiting massively from this. And all that knowledge and experience early on has led to a fantastic second site. Long may it continue! 👏

For what it’s worth adding. This “vendor finance” or “deferred payment” to the seller is very common and not spoken about enough. When we bought my father out. We phrased it “earn out” but worked in a very similar way and allowed him to retire but also ensure the business future without the need for (difficult) bank funding at the time. 👍

If she brought that much value to a 3 depot business. Imagine how much value she could bring to you or anyone with as many branches as you Alex - you’ll be starting a recruitment business before long (if you haven’t already) - very interesting and inspiring person 🥇

Maybe I've gone too far... My business is called Tyre Mann but my wife is on the front counter and my daughter is with me fitting in the workshop... I'm the only man in the business and sometimes I'm just there to referee the clashing of heads!!! 😂😂 A lot of my female customers are very much put at ease just having a female check their tyre pressures or fitting their tyres however, a lot of men (especially of the older generation) seem to think they're unable to do the job properly so I make a point of reinforcing decisions made by my wife and daughter a lot. If that's what they've told a customer, I'm confident that as long as their reasons are sound, I would never undermine them!!

I don’t work in or own a garage, I’m not even involved in the motor trade yet, but that will change soon as I start as a car trader. I found this podcast really interesting and Tina was a fantastic guest. I’m already looking into some of the things she mentioned. A podcast just on data is right up my street so hope to see her on again soon! ❤

Open and honest!!! I think it touched many of us and hit close to home.. I think it’s a similar story for most business owners and I love the shit sandwich analogy. I personally call it a “Bullshit minefield” as you never know what’s going to go off next. Great pod lads 🔧 🚗

This one has been special and has resonated a lot with me. I am currently in kidney failure and am on dialysis 3 afternoons a week. Our business is a small tyre shop with just my wife and me and occasionally, my eldest daughter when I'm not feeling well, she comes and helps with the fitting. We are keeping it small and manageable because we don't know what the future looks like at the moment but at 5pm, we stop working and it's all about family time! We try and do whatever we can together as I only have so much energy each day. However, there was a period before I started dialysis that I nearly had to give it all up because I was so ill and having my own garage was a dream of mine that I wasn't ready to give up on. The business was on it's knees and even though it's doing okay now, we're not out of the woods yet but saving my business has absolutely saved my mental health and has helped me massively with everything I'm going through. So yes, find time for family as it's very important but my business is my 3rd child and I'll devote just as much time to that as it deserves too.
