Recently tendered for a large vehicle maintenance contract and was required to provide our carbon emissions data and commit to actions that lower our carbon footprint to be able to work alongside them. A lot of this was around the use and maintenance of electric vehicles for both ourselves and them. We wouldn't be able to work alongside them if we didn't agree to this and regulary submit our improvements. It's happening whichever way you look at it and I believe independents must get on board or get left behind.

Great podcast. I have something to add. I can service and repair EV Mercedes. On the service side it’s not at all profitable. A small service on a EQA is about £60. Main dealer is £100 or so. There is zero profit for me or the dealer to do this work. The EV Mercedes are very reliable and use their brakes much and are easy on tyres. It’s difficult to get excited about service work on EV’s. There just isn’t the profit in it.

That was a great debate. I've just gone EV and so far so good. You're right on the range; provided I stay Midlandish, I get there and back without having to queue and charge (I'm yet to experience if the horror stories are true). Regarding the electric fleet as a bad investment, there is that argument operationally and with regard to the depreciation. I wonder the impact on sales when perceived to be a 'green' company though. Thoughts?

If EV will grow faster and push away fuel engines, for us is the one chance to stay on track is to move focus on body repair and more focus on hiring tech with at list basic knowledge on electrical jobs
