What if the toe is fractured and dislocated?
@pamelasmith77409 күн бұрын
Strange. My Sister and I have this extra bone. Doc said we were born with them. We were about 10 and 2 years old when diagnosed. Doc said to always buy wide enough shoes. Then said if it hurt it would have to be cut out. Not sure of his exact wording. But he scared me into never wearing tight shoes. Strange is for the the arch support you reccomend. That type would drive me nuts and make my ankles hurt. I once wore a pair of used shoes that fit that way and it was terrible. My Sister and I have never had any pain from the extra bones. I used to walk around on the sides of my feet when I was young and my Sister used to walk with her toes curled back, like making a fist with your hand, on her toe knuckles. When my Daughter was born her Father thought she was deformed because her feet were turned inward far enough her soles could touch flat against each other. The releif on his face when I turned my feet was priceless. We all also have sideways pinky toes. The pad of the toe rotated inward towards the foot when not standing, but in the proper position when walking and standing. I still often sit in a chair with the sides of my feet on the floor, soles together.

What are the things that 30-40% of nail fungus are not nail fungus? Do home laser therapies work or do I only need to go to a clinic?
@Footankle10 күн бұрын
Other causes of thick nails are most often damage to the root of the nail (onychodystrophy) or damage to the bed of the nail (onycholysis). Home lasers do not work - they are a scam. We include both advantages and disadvantages of all treatments that have some evidence that they might be beneficial. www.footankle.com/toe-conditions/fungal-discolored-toenails/ We hope that this is helpful!

Can't find a cure for cancer & can't find a cure for a simple toenail fungus that's been around forever, useless scientists and doctors.
@Footankle12 күн бұрын
Well, that's a pretty broad conclusion. We now can treat onychomycosis (nail fungus) successfully about 60% of the time. Much more importantly, a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association just last week show that an estimated 5.94 million cancer deaths were averted between 1975 - 2000 due to prevention, screening and treatment. Pretty much all of those lives saved can be attributed to scientists, doctors and public health officials.

I have had only one doctor who, when adjusting the orthotics, stuck. Two adjustments and good for 5 years. Through my 40s. Since his retirement, it has been disappointing results since 2016. 5 different pairs since 2016. I have an extremely high arch. I had heel spurs and plantar facialitis. Those problems are gone with shock wave therapy. I find the 3 d imaging sucks compared with casting. I find that my feet knees and everything feel good for a while after the break-in phase, but in time, where I had a small tear in my anterior right leg meniscus in 2010. That starts acting up. The inside of my left knee starts hurting, and I swear I get left side neck stiffness and soreness. My lower back feels relief when I take them out. So I feel good with them in for a while until I don't, then I take them out and I feel good until I don't again, about a week or two for each before the problems start again. This is after 3 adjustments, I have had this last pair for 14 months. I am 65 and have an elite fitness level for ov 35 years. So I stretch and do everything I need to. My job is physically demanding, I walk when I am working between 20 to 30 thousand steps a day in work boots. I wonder if my deterateing meniscus has something to do with this?
@Footankle19 күн бұрын
There is no difference with 3D imaging and plaster casting. If your doctor uses plaster casting, the cast they take is 3D imaged at the lab before production of the orthotics, so ther is no intrinsic advantage to the casting. What DOES matter is the skill of the practitioner. How your foot is positioned during imaging is absolutely critical. A practitioner can do it well with casting or imaging and can do a terrible job with casting and with imaging. The key is finding somone who is truly skilled in orthotic therapy and that can be a frustrating search. The doctor and not an assistant should be positioning your foot. The foot must be held in the correct position during the imaging and never left to just hang in space. This page has information on how to find a good orthotic therapy practitioner: www.footankle.com/orthotics/why-us/

Big toe massive impact on stair. First 9 weeks intense pain. Started with crutches.. Then buddy taped (as advised), some improvement, but then it was as if tape hurt the ligaments further, so stopped taping. Been on one crutch, for almost 6 months now. At home not ideal recovery environment.. a hyper active elderly person with a bad habit of bumping into other people, so I can't let go of crutch. Same leg had previous Achilles as well as knee injuries. So I'm just trying to rest it still as much as possible.

As someone that’s worn custom orthotics,I wouldn’t wear those. They’re plastic,no shock absorption, I want to wear something that’s like jell or being on my bed. I wouldn’t suggest anyone else to either.
@FootankleАй бұрын
Orthotic therapy is all about identifying what forces are damaging specific tissues and figuring out how to decrease those damaging forces. In a flat foot the forces on certain structures, the posterior tibial tendon or plantar fascia for example, can be tremendous. Trying to control this with a soft orthotic or a gel orthotic is almost impossible if you want to achieve pain relief. You can still put a soft cushion on top of the firm bottom, but cushioning doesn't apply enough force to provide relief in this type of foot. Here is some detailed information on flat feet. A pretty standard treatment is a 6 - 12 day course of prednisone. This usually decreases pain within 24 hours. Not only is gout painful, but those with a propensity toward gout have significanlty increased risk of cardiovascular events including heart attack and stroke. Gout is not a condition that should not be treated without consulting with a medical professional. See a podistrist or your primary care doctor for treatment of the acute attacks. Then see a rheumatologist for long term prevention of both joint and systemic problems associated with gout. I can't emphasize this enough. A study published in Annals of the Rheumatic Disease found that more than half of gout patients are at “very high risk” for heart disease, thanks to factors including a buildup of fatty plaque in their carotid arteries (major vessels that provide blood flow to the brain). If your carotid arteries are clogged with plaque, it could lead to a stroke. Other research from the University of Oxford has shown that people with gout are twice as likely as members of the general public to have a heart attack or stroke. I try to provide a lot of home treatments that are effective and inexpensive. Gout, however, should always have professional treatment.
