It's really quite simple. Most sirens have a timer when switching from one tone to another initiated by hitting the horn. So the certain tone ie. say from wail you hit the horn and you get say 5 seconds of yelp. Simply open up the siren box and switch it off. No harm, no damage. Works extremely well in congested downtown areas with congested traffic and high rises. All it takes is for the driver to hold the horn for however long or short he wants and it changes tone. Move the tone switch to another position such as yelp and you get a yelp-phaser tones. Trust me used it for years and it's very effective.
@michaelb95292 күн бұрын
No cost for repairs as nothing is broken. No extra effort or not paying attention while driving. Like I said very effective, used it for over 15 and never had a problem. Just the driver is simply changing the tones to fast.

Well thats going to cause mass confusion. A black over red ladder, white over red pump and an orange what ever the tiny thing might be. Funny they put their proud ladder at their quietest station that isn't even in the City of Vancouver. What happened to their big huge bloated rear mount they had. It was so big they moved from downtown out to the boondocks ay UBC.

Why didn’t they use the Q is it banned in Canada or at least Vancouver like it is in for example NYC?
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses3 күн бұрын
They did use it. You can hear it in the distance during the first response. Most fire departments in Canada have it, some don’t. Definitely not banned, just a matter of preference. It’s not banned in NYC either, some trucks have it, such as Rescue 1.
@Hall7EmergencyPhotography3 күн бұрын
Awesome video as always Timbo! Glad we caught this old truck together! Wasn’t expecting to get it on a Sunday, yet alone twice within an hour. Must be the darklord luck? 😆.
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses3 күн бұрын
Thanks Mr. Danroth! I’d say there was definitely some dark magic involved for us to get this twice…on a Sunday…at UBC… (and I’m not complaining!) 😆

331 is not a private ambulance. Its the new livery
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses3 күн бұрын
Take a look at the unit number on the side. It says ‘PA331’, which stands for Private Ambulance. The car itself is an SCDF vehicle, but it is staffed by paramedics from a private company who are contracted by SCDF. A few years ago they had the vehicles of private companies running out of fire stations alongside SCDF ambulances, but then they switched to using SCDF vehicles only, with the unit number indicating whether they are staffed by SCDF paramedics or a private company. Hope that makes sense.

Oi oi when did you sneak off to UBC, you snake? Minus 10 points for Slytherin... But jokes aside, it is a rather interesting situation VFRS has found themselves in. Might not be a bad idea as a fire truck enthusiast to capitalize on this unique arrangement. Nice footage too!

That Q siren will not see any action while it's there, they'd probably remove it if the truck was here to stay honestly LOL
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses4 күн бұрын
Well I’m not sure why you say that, but it’s already seen some action. I know they used the Q on a call the night before and you can also hear it in the distance during the first response clip in my video.
@andromeda_12154 күн бұрын
@@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses Well that is certainly interesting since they haven’t had a mechanical siren like a Q, Screaming Eagle, B&M Series, etc. etc. in a long time. The only trucks I know of that use a mechanical of any kind is E-2 & L-2 and T-10 (soon to be replaced).
@812firephotos4 күн бұрын
Vancouver has 3 Spartan engines on order and they look to have a Q siren on the bumper. The new Tower 8 might also have one as well I’m not too sure.
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses4 күн бұрын
@@andromeda_1215 Yes, they normally don’t buy Qs (due to costs as far as I know). E2/ L2 and T10 did not have mechanical sirens either, those were only electronic siren tones. Vancouver will likely have Qs on the next generation of engines though.
