I am a simple man. I see an easyGURPS video. I click "like." But using grid maps for GURPS? Come on man! It's this kind of compromise that prevents companies from making hex maps. Mostly kidding. Mostly. Looks like fun. Carry on.

@easygurps
@easygurps 20 күн бұрын
Yes sir, there is an optional trait called "energy source" I believe it is, and it cost less than fatigue at 2pts and substitutes for FatiguePoints for spell casting purposes. I like it because it allows me to model the old feeble wizard who gets out of breath getting out of his chair, yet can cast spells all day long. This can also be achieved by VERY high magery and spell skill levels.

Damn this is a neat idea though the big hurdle is keeping the price low enough without sacrificing anything. As for the price I'm willing to pay, I'd say $100, $150 at the most. Foundry is only $50 and Roll20 is free but there is something you lose when you don't have the tactile experience of moving your guy across a map and it is a whole lot easier to inprov stuff on a dry erase hex map then fiddling with the touchy drawing program used by 20 or Foundry so I can see a market for it (especially for people who have a ton of minis and terrain built already), so long as it doesn't break the bank. Now it would even cooler if you could kinda mixed the best of both worlds with this system because while there is a lot of stuff that's just better on a "it feels good man" level with using physical stuff and roles; there are some useful quality of life features that VTT's bring as well. Like when you mix tasteful use of CG with well thought out practical effects in a movie, these are two things that work better when they complement rather then replace one another.
@easygurps
@easygurps 26 күн бұрын
Yes it should be theoretically easy to integrate this device with existing VTTs since all we're dealing with essentially is video transfer. As for the price, I am hopeful that will take care of itself in time as electronic prices continue their inevitable slow march downward. Thanks for commenting! ALSO: interested folks like yourself may be contact in the future about play testing.

The problem with the Campaign Planning Form is while it sounds like it is for _planning_ the campaign, it's more a Session -1 form. It gives a bunch of mechanical items that you will want to communicate to your players (and doesn't even do that very well). Even then, it says nothing of what the campaign is _about_ past the basic genre. Will there be travel, will there be lots of (or any) combat? Sandbox, or a single plotline?

I think there's a sweet spot between too detailed but realistic and too under detailed but faster and easier. And to me both systems seem to fail on opposite sides of the sweet spot. Why would every parry be less effective? I don't get that.
@easygurps

@easygurps
@easygurps Ай бұрын
@@PaulTheSkeptic Oh yes then I will explain fully: The original GURPS rule is that you can attempt to dodge any number of incoming attacks within a 1s turn. If 5 guys attack me in the same turn, I simply roll my dodge against each of the 5 attacks. My house rule gives you a cumulative -1 to dodge each additional attack after the first (in the same round). So the first guy I can dodge normally, the second guy I have a -1 to dodge, the third guy at -2 etc. After the round is over, we start again. Does that make sense? I made it essentially work the same way Parry rules work.

1. Absolutely, I have lots of physical miniatures so I'd love this. 2. I think this could be good for schools, especially for collaborative presentations. 3. It would need to be cheap enough to get multiple. The issue is that if you have multiple participants, you need multiple setups. I don't know how realistic under $100 would be. The big roadblock I see is that if the device is $100, I as the GM need one, but also my players need them too. VTT is cheap, and that's what everyone will be comparing it to. If this could somehow be integrated with phones that would be ideal, a kit could come with a stand for your phone, and a projector, and a case to keep everything in. I love the concept.

OMFG!!! 1: OH YES!!! 2: I can clearly see 2 kids playing and drawing together even far away! This can be used for ADHD and autism activity between a specialist and a child who is far away. 3: Knowing that a projector is less than 100$, a small cheap computer is about 100$, a camera is 20$, let's say 100$ for the metal table stand, 20$ of cables, I would say 500$ max for the full device program included. But if there was instructions, it could be fairly easily replicated (3D print the stand, BYOD compatibility), the only important thing would be the program, wich could go for about 100$ or a 10-20$ subscribriction, or something like that i don't know. This Is the future of long-distance RPG. This will send Hasbro's VTT to the garbage. Protect it.

Our Rifts house rules were not many. We did have one big one. We let a dodge be used over and over again until it was that character's turn again. I.E. You lose initiative, and 3 goblins shoot 3 arrows at you. You dodge once, aka you lose one attack. However, we rolled the dice three times, even though it was only 1 attack used up. This wasn't for gameplay reasons. It was to accept the fact that people will simply forget what was rolled literally 5 seconds ago. We're all human, it happens. So, you roll each dodge as they come. Roll for each arrow individually rather than have one dodge roll that every enemy has to beat to hit you. You are in a "dodge state" until it is your turn. Another rule we thought of later (as in we had stopped playing Palladium games) was to use dodge vs gunfire, but only if you have cover to dodge behind (or be super agile or flying). If you are in the open, you can only run, changing the minimum needed to roll to hit you from 5 to 8. After you reach cover, then you can start dodging when somebody shoots guns at you.

Horror Factor is meant to be used with Insanity tables. If you haven't read it, try reading the TTRPG "Beyond the Supernatural" It's like a light weight version of Call of Cthulhu. It's also the basis for what the RIFTS story line was founded on. I also see the previous comment about the peeling book, Suggestion: Try using clear packing tape along the edges of the book and the spine. It makes a huge difference in the books structural integrity.

The basilisk fails his perception check due to the range penalties on it. (range penalties are really bitchy in GURPS) (Basic p550. Penalty for range 21-30 yds is -7. Even if range penalties for perception arent as severe as they are for ranged attacks it should at least be a -1) Spear guy- a 3 or 4 is always a hit and a critical, regardless of skill. (Basic p381) The rogues' knife- A high quality weapon is a good way to help your damage output when a character can afford one. Also, he could use an all-out attack with the +2 damage option to enable possible penetration of the DR.

I did run a GURPS game last night with players that did not know the rules. It was fast and fun. The key was that I'm very familiar with the rules and could tell them what options they have and also did all the math for them. Also I created the characters for them. In case I would have started the session with character creation and by explaining the rules to them (esp. fighting options) they would not have given GURPS a try. So IMO it is really important to not overwhelm new players with all the options. Overtime they will start to look up and learn rules by themselves.

Honestly, at the velocity they're hitting they're gonna cause a significant sized blast anyways. So folks, you know what time it is, it's FUN WITH HIGH VELOCITY PHYSICS time, yaaay! At 2 miles/sec, they're going to cause an explosion slightly greater then their mass in TNT. So according to Spaceships a 12cm railgun round weights 80 lbs. and at a ~3.2 km/s it's going to have a blast effect on par with ~96.8 lbs of high explosives! That's about 6d×20 cr ex damage, that's an average of ~413 points of damage. That house wood house and those two goons would be abstract art after this heh. For those of you who want to use this, just multiply the mass of the projectile by (0.5× (its velocity in m/s)^2)/4.28×10^6. After that use the formula on page 415 of the Basic Set to figure damage. Just set up a spread sheet and you can have high velocity fun at your table top at any time!
