I did this job a few months ago. That big bolt is called the Jesus bolt and I sprayed it with wd40 let it soak for a little, and then got a breaker bar on it. It eventually came loose. The other side I could zap off with an impact but if you’re worried about damaging the bolt I’d stick with the breaker bar. Nice even pressure

@maxelnoyl35976 ай бұрын
@3gpmedia Map gas won’t get anywhere near as hot as oxy/acetylene. The mini ductor is a really neat solution that uses electricity and doesn’t have an open flame. I got really lucky and found my torch on CL for 150 with 2 large tanks and a cart. It lasted me 5 years before I filled it for $200. I really wanted the NA2 mainly for the 6 speed. I’ve heard the longer us gears in the NA1 5 speed aren’t ideal. I definitely like the extra displacement with the 20 more HP. Doing the jdm short gears on your transmission I have heard makes it a lot more fun.
@thirdgearpull6 ай бұрын
ill look into it... probably something that would come in handy for me later... i actually dont mind the taller gears... makes for an interesting run especially 2nd gear against shorter geared opponents 😀 hoping to one day offset the missing herse perse with a supercharger 😉

Subaru did not offer adjustable camber on the rear for the simple reason that they did not wanted to do so. Subaru is understeerish by will. Lots of negative camber on the rear, limited on the front, small amount of caster for a fade dynamic camber curve and anti-dive instead of anti-lift. All with the sole purpose of not getting the buyers killed. Otherwise, all tuner boys would have went zero camber on the rear, thinking they're on a rally stage. Btw, you can adjust toe on the rear. The long, infamous GD/SG rear knuckle bolts, if the car has seen salt, need to be cut off and replaced with new ones and lots of grease to keep them alive.
@thirdgearpull6 ай бұрын
thanks for the input as always... since she has been in the northeast all of its life... assumption is that she has seen a great deal amount of salty roads... yeah that knuckle bolt was a doozy

Love the videos! A few notes I see in the video! 1) E46 is a heavier car than the sti! That’s why you kept up. Power to weight ratio is more powerful than a number 2) once you’ve hit your 1500mile mark you don’t break in oil anymore. As your rings are fully seated now. If you’re worried about it then run conventional motor oil there are engine builders (and my preferred) oil for break in! Keep up the videos! Love the verity from yours videos!
@thirdgearpull6 ай бұрын
thanks man.. certainly appreciate the words of encouragement... gives me the motivation to continue... agreed on the power to weight ratio although i thought that it wouldnt have been that much of a difference with the e46 sedan... i ended up using break-in oil for the 1500-3k phase...

Fiiiiiiiiinally! After 3 days of ffwding (😅), I'm up to date on the STI build. Impressive to see the extent of the Subaru community there, wish we've had such enthusiasm on the old continent. Please, since this actually got me to your channel - has the IAG oil pan been making contact to the front subframe? Especially after the WOT pulls on the dyno, where I expect the amplitude of engine movement to have reached its max. I will be installing mine shortly, and I don't know what to expect. Thanks!
@thirdgearpull6 ай бұрын
im thankful .. will take any support i can get.. the IAG pan has not made contact with the frame upon inspection since the last oil change..

Regarding the coils, you should inform your tuner about their code, FK something. The *334 for example, that are the latest STI ones, are identical to *186, that was an earlier code. But other codes are very different, something with impedance, beats me entirely. But the tuner must be aware of the code and scale things I have no idea about accordingly.
@thirdgearpull6 ай бұрын
tuner is aware.. he has been kept abreast 👍
@Dantutz6 ай бұрын
PS: it might have started badly waiting for the alignment because of the speed density setup, and heat-soaked IAT sensor. Maybe a hybrid, SD and MAF solution might have worked better. PPS: those camber values on the rear are not right at all. The GD chassis does not have adjustable rear camber, and usually, they come right from the factory. Such discrepancies might hide something nasty in the vehicle history, either accidents or long jumps maybe, or dead-worn lateral arms bushings.
@thirdgearpull6 ай бұрын
yeah.. the GD does not have oem adjustability.. hoping the alignment rack and additional inspection will shed some light on the discrepancy
@Dantutz6 ай бұрын
On these, the coolant level is to be checked in the tank next to the radiator. Looks like refrigerant die, especially since there's some underneath the AC compressor. If you have left the compressor on the side of the engine bay all those years with the engine out, the AC lines might have cracked on the rubber portions.
