Never really got into these - but I do have a dumb question. Do they ride faster than a deer fly can get at you? Or do you just cover up.
@steamlogger3 күн бұрын
Five to six miles per hour is a comfortable speed. Deer Flys can still get you. Cover up or good bug spray is needed.

Then perhaps larger trains? These would be perfect for early teens to ride on. BTW: I am old enough to barely remember some steam engines pulling freight on the Grand Trunk. This was1955-57.All passenger trains were being pulled by Diesels since 1953.

In the days before taggers. Also note the operator or clerk sitting outside what I guess is the tower with a clipboard taking down car numbers - "checking" the train.
@steamlogger9 күн бұрын
Yes that is the now removed Plaster Creek tower and a clerk recording the interchange cars from the Conraul Hugart yard. At the time the video was taken Plaster Creek tower controlled movements in and out of the yard on both ends as well as trackage on the West Side of Grand Rapids from Fuller Junction to Pleaseant Street. This is now controlled from Jacksonville Florida.

a pretty day....question for you-do you have a rough idea of how you deal with expansion of aluminum rail?
@steamlogger15 күн бұрын
When the rail is laid a 1/16 inch gap is left at the joints. The bolts holding the track together have nylock nuts and are just snug.
@chrisduprey728317 күн бұрын
Kinda weird to see welded rail on an industrial spur instead of old jointed rail.

They probably used some rail remover from the mainline. It cuts down on required maintenance with the scrap loads on this line.
