I know there's so many interpretations, from Dante's Inferno to finding a reason to live again, but something about it just makes me feel like this is a man who has seen the unspeakable and nobody will believe him. The way he says "I found something in the woods somewhere" in the end sounds like hollow terror, like he's telling the story and remembering this abomination that hunted him down, and he knows no one will believe him.

Great video! What's is more appropriate than a picture of forest fire? Love can burn you to the ashes. And fire can burn whole towns down. Also thank you Elena Tonra and Daughter. This just make me cry... In the good way...

The song is about a guy who went into the forest to die but when confronted with actually dying he confessed to his dead girlfriend he's not done with living. It's just as simple and human as that. Fuck off with the rest of the shit.

It's a shame you commented like that. I love this way of thinking about the song, but art, including songs, can be interpreted freely, and insulting how others view this song after you presented such a cool way to see it is a pity.
@renerubia
@renerubia 5 ай бұрын
@@themadowl9224 That is the only way you can interpret this song. It is human and flawed and not about werewolves and bullshit. The man simply changed his mind about killing himself.
@themadowl9224
@themadowl9224 4 ай бұрын
@@renerubia You can never only interpret something one way, and while it doesn't matter for a Hozier song whatsoever, in other situations that thinking can be actively dangerous. (Example: Even actual laws, which are made to be as clear and unmistakable as possible, are interpreted differently - interpreting the law is an entire job.) Please sit with this for some time instead of feeling attacked and justified. If you can't see that a song, that isn't clear about anything, that is art, is valid in other interpretations besides yours, what else can't you see?
@renerubia

@@themadowl9224 The actual lyrics explain exactly what happened. It clearly says he went out into the woods to die because his love is dead and he wants to join her in death, but when confronted by the visceral violence of dying he's say, "I'm not done yet." That's it, end of story. He wanted to romantically end his life in his grief for his dead lover but in reality he came to his senses and basically said "fuck that noise."

My head was warm My skin was soaked I called your name 'til the fever broke When I awoke The moon still hung The night so black that the darkness hummed I raised myself My legs were weak I prayed my mind be good to me An awful noise Filled the air I heard a scream in the woods somewhere A woman's voice! I quickly ran Into the trees with empty hands A fox it was He shook, afraid I spoke no words, no sound he made His bone exposed His hind was lame I raised a stone to end his pain What caused the wound? How large the teeth? I saw new eyes were watching me The creature lunged I turned and ran To save a life I didn't have Deer in the chase There as I flew Forgot all prayers of joining you I clutched my life And wished it kept My dearest love, I'm not done yet How many years I know I'll bear I found something in the woods somewhere

This man beautifully talks about loneliness, our demons and our struggle to save others and ourselves. How this becomes a reality check when we finally realises the fact that this is only an egotistical illusion that we can save anyone or that we are NOT alone. We are alone even when we are together because of what we are, mere evolved animals. At best glorified predatory mammals. After this realization he talks about how painful of a reality it is and how those attempts create perpetual bleeding scars. Then after he grieves himself he realises that the only salvation is to be good to himself and to be happy for at least trying to help but now without the selfishness...While he is still mourning the horrors that take place. The causes he can not see, only theorize. The effects that he clearly can hopelessly witness... He is a true poet, take me to church also is written by him he reminds me of Paolo Nutini's Iron sky The depth of poetry I mean. The music of course helps the words to be etched on and into the mind...
