We have a bottle calf who was given to us after it was weaned, at about 12 weeks old. We have a bag of milk replacer. The calf has been weaned for 3 or 4 weeks and is much smaller than other calves its age. We’d like to use our bag of milk replacer to supplement the calf’s 100% grass diet and hope to see it grow some. How much milk replacer would you suggest feeding the calf at 12 weeks old and having been weaned for about 3 or 4 weeks. Thank you.
@JERRYCROWNOVER
@JERRYCROWNOVER 6 күн бұрын
@@triciahill216 I would sprinkle about 1 cup of the milk replacer over couple of cups sweet grain and see how he/she takes to that. It’s tough on one that small to thrive on grass only. Give it that little extra protein and think you’ll see extra growth and energy. Good luck.

I laughed watching you clean up those bale ring feeding spots. Cleaning out feed lots and pasture feeding spots was one of my favorite August jobs. We always fed out our steers and feeder heifers up to about 800 pounds before sending them west for finishing. Consequently, the lots were left with rich deposits of manure. One of our daughters majored in Plant Sciences at MU. Her soils professor (Smeda, I think) asked students to bring in soil samples from their homes. I had her collect her sample from a feed lot pile I had been building for over a decade. She said it tested off the charts for P & K and the OM was over 6%. She said he asked her where in the world her farm was, LOL! Since we bought a place and moved near Columbia, we wish we could figure a cheap way to haul several tons of that fertile material down here.
