Don't know if someone pointed it out to you. The sour mash in brewing is exactly the same reason it is done in whiskey making. Sours or acidic beers are made through fermentation with a sour or lactic yeast strain., nothing to do with the mash

Loved this video, knew you were going to say prohibition. I love OF rye, more bourbon like. Wanted a high rye mashbill, went for Dickel. Didn't love it at first, love it now. As for Canadian rye, Alberta premium cask strength was on sale for $29.99, love it. I like Old Rittenhouse, but would rather drink Dickel

The best thing about this whiskey is your joke about July 12th. I don't know what sweetened watered down horse piss tastes like, but I'm guessing it's something like what's in this bottle of Jamesons Orange that we just bought. Funny that it was out on special / clearance. For us it will be saved for Hot Toddys only. No sugar required, and I'll need to buy another bottle of the proper stuff to bring the Toddy back up to the required alcohol % without stupidly increasing the sweetness (tonight I even squeezed extra lemon into it!)

Not great straight but really nice in Coke or coffee. Nice nutty flavor. Plus it's historic!

Came here after trying a pour of their single barrel yesterday and I think it might be worth a revisit on at least the single barrel. The new bottle says aged a minimum of 3 years now and I found it to be less youthy than a lot of Iowa whiskies. The wood impact is pretty obvious and it leans toward too tannin-y (this is where they are better off aging in 53-gallon barrels) but the small barrel and more time almost made it reminiscent of a Texas whiskey, which I usually like. That brown sugar sweetness is definitely there and the heavy oak adds a bit of a leatheriness and finishes a little nutty. As an Iowan, finding good Iowa-made bourbon isn't much different than hunting for allocated bottles around here lol. This is one of the few that I actually enjoyed, but hope they continue to refine.

Canadian Mist is the absolute worst whisky (if you can call it that) I have ever tasted. Just horrible. Beyond horrible actually. I saw it on the drug store shelf, standing all alone out in the open, not with the other liquors. It was priced at $8.99 a fifth. I thought hmmm, I'll give it a try and bought a bottle. I took it home, poured some over ice, sat down to try it out. I took one sip. I immediately let out a yell...AHHHHHHHHHH!! AHHHHHHHH!!! Ack!!!! Ack!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I picked up the bottle, staggered to the kitchen yelling AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! all the way. I turned it upside down and dumped it down the kitchen drain, pounding on the bottom of the plastic bottle. Yelling AHHHHHHHHH!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!! Then I turned on the faucet and garbage disposal and let them run for 3 minutes all the time I was yelling AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Then I took the plastic bottle out into a field across from the house and lit it on fire, yelling AHHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!! Then I went home, sat down in my easy chair and shook violently for an hour and every few minutes I let out an AHHHHHHHHH!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!. Finally I calmed enough to work my way to the bathroom, ran a hot bath and soaked for 3 hours until I could regain my strength and stop yelling AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!. No more Canadian Mist for me. Ever. Ever.

As a conesseuir of cheap wines, whiskeys, and beers/malt liquors, I've had the occasional run in with those Wild Irish. Can confirm that the red isn't that bad, for what it is. The white, though...there's a reason I haven't drank that flavor in 20 years. Holy, jumping Jimsus is it fucking awful!

Im a bullit bourbon guy. But as far as cheap whiskey goes there is a lot worse. Not that harsh. I think Canada House, McMasters and Black Velvet are alot worse
