What's weird is that there's an unswitchable, global noise gate on that can't be turned off. You can hear it clamping down if your noise floor is at just the right level. It's annoying because despite setting every noise gate off, it still stays on. The only way to get around this is to raise the level so your noise floor exceeds the global gate. So my question, is there a hidden setting that would allow me to turn this off?

I think you might be referring to impedance rather than balanced versus unbalanced. According to the manual, the recommended output load impedance is 10 kohms or greater, which is line level. So, I don’t believe you would need a DI box, which is used to convert high Z to line level.
@xjanssens Жыл бұрын
@@Angus.Maclean You are confusing a few things here. A DI is typically used to convert an unbalanced (high impedance) signal into a balanced (low impedance) signal. So, in case of unbalanced outputs, yes, you would actually need a DI to send over long distances to a mixing desk. This has nothing to do with the (line) level. Both balanced line and mic levels exist.
@Angus.Maclean Жыл бұрын
@@xjanssens To my understanding, unbalanced outputs can be of varying impedance on output or input, but if you are an analog electrical engineer then I defer to your expertise. Regardless, the output impedance is indicated by BOSS to be 10kohms, which is line level and appears to be unbalanced (and I would suggest a DI box with balanced output over any longer run to avoid noise/creating an antenna...in my experience). Please kindly and diplomatically add/correct where applicable.

Hi Angus, thanks for this video! I used your technique to try to turn the RC600 into an 8x8, but to all intents and purposes, it seems like only 7 'true' outputs are possible. It seems that headphone stereo output cannot be delinked on the device, unlike main output and Sub1 and Sub2, which can be delinked. (When I click ‘menu’, ‘output’, ‘setup’, I can delink the main output,Sub1, and Sub2, but I can’t do the same for phones.) So, I can get tracks 1-6 all outputting individually in my DAW using input 1-6. However, whatever I choose to put through the phones (I’m doing guitar and microphone), comes out of input 7 and 8 in my DAW. Which basically means, I only really have 7 outputs, not 8, because 7 & 8 are identical. Curious to know if you are aware of any solutions? And also looking forward to more RC600 related videos from you :) All the best, cheers.
@Angus.Maclean Жыл бұрын
Thanks for testing given I just set it up in (assumed) theory. Record 7/8 to your Daw and then separate the stereo track to two mono. Example, in Logic, Duplicate the track (cmd D); copy region to duplicated track (option drag); click and hold ch mode (i.e., stereo/mono); choose L for one and R for the other.

@Angus.Maclean Жыл бұрын
1) The FS pedals work on the RC-600 Ctl 1,2/Exp 1 and Ctl 3,4/Exp 2 TRS jacks, but FS6 or FS7 require power, which is why I prefer the FS-5U (Actually, I now just make my own foot-switches). 2) A stereo master volume pedal will work, but you'll have to do some searching on impedance to make sure you get the right one (to make sure it is transparent and you are not losing high end). Why not just use one the the EXP or MIDI to control volume of any output as needed, including the master volume rather than a "master volume" pedal.

@Angus.Maclean2 жыл бұрын
The manual uses Memory to refer to the "01->02->...99->...." I used the term Patch because that (or Preset) is term with which people are most familiar. BOSS uses Memory, so I appologize for the confusion. Any footswitch can be changed/used to INC or DEC (see par. guide, p. 19) a Memory slot (a.k.a. Patch, Preset). However, when using a "CTL FUNC" (p. 14) to change "TOGGLE COLOR" (p. 19) you then have to use an ASSIGN (p. 26) to make it do something (e.g., ALL ST/STP; p.27). For some reason, using an ASSIGN to INC/DEC MEM is not an option, so that is just not possible to change the color on. Personally, I don't really care about coloring INC/DEC memories and I have them set up on external CTL/EXP pedal footswitches (p 20). (Note the potentially confusing use of CTL FUNC and CTL/EXP in the manual).
@greendrinkguy18822 жыл бұрын
@@Angus.Maclean I learned a few things from that, Thank U for taking the time to write it.. +btw U R wasting valuable real estate by using an expression pedal switch just to INC/DEC memory. Those EXP pedal switches are the equivalent of 3 of the built-in foot switches (since EXP pedal switches are always available in all 3 modes..) so better to use it for things that you HAVE TO HAVE in all 3 modes (like the mode switch button) -since if u switch modes with 1 any of the 9 built in foot switches then u are really wasting 3 foot switches (1 in each mode) just to control the 1 function of switching modes....

Hi I also hope that boss solves these problems on rc600. I would like to ask you if you can record with this sequence without having problems of misalignment of the recordings: 1) I record track one with accompaniment chords, starting the recording on the first quarter in downbeat, for four measures. 2) I record a melody on the second track which must start 1/8 earlier than the chords recorded on the first track. Having done this, listening to the recordings again, it happens that after the first reproductions in which everything plays in time, it happens that the synchronization begins to get lost until the two tracks no longer play in time. Do you also have this problem? It would be a disappointment to find that the rc600 cannot handle loops with recording starts at different times. Thank you very much, congratulations on your channel.

Thanks for this. I never understood why the toggle color option existed if it isn't retained when you set the the switch to perform a function. So if I understand correctly, you have to give up functionality of a whole switch to set its color, but this can be useful for indicating which memory bank you are on? I can see how this is useful. But I would just rely on the bank name/number in the main display rather than lose a whole switch to get a color indicator. It's weird to me that the switches are each capable of 7 colors but you can't just set those colors to switches with functions enabled. Appreciate your showing me an actual use case even if it's not what I wanted.
