Most leaks are caused by the under performing PCV. It gets blocked and even when new, was not working at its best. The fault was rectified in the last series VF. Remove the PCV, clean it. The single hole in the top should be drilled to 3mm. The two smaller holes underneath need to be drilled to 2mm. I did a write up on the job on Just Commodores. Recently after 4years, intake is dry and clean still. If the holes are drilled too big, the PCV fails to work as it should and vapours can find their way into the intake pipe, have less oiling in the top of the motor, and oil up the MAF sensor.
@EMP_castlebravo5 сағат бұрын
Depending how long ago you posted that write-up, I may well have been following your recommendations. I drilled out my PCV to those sizes and then added a chamfer with +1mm drill size. Everything was very clean after that. Never noticed any oil in the intake but I do plan to add catch cans at some point.

Quick question, I have a 2009 Lancer ES 2.0 . I’ve been using 5w -20 should I be using 5w - 40 instead?
@EMP_castlebravo Жыл бұрын
Penrite recommends its 5w-40 oil for the Lancer engine. However I would check locally with an auto parts store or through an app/ website of your preferred trusted oil manufacturer to see exactly which grade works for your car and in your climate. In some areas the manufacturer might specify a different oil grade to comply with local emissions laws or to work better in colder/warmer climates.

29:00 if anyone is here using a torque wrench for the first time and perhaps brought a new one down at the local supercheap make sure to test your setting on something else first. Eg.. set to 12Nm as said but go try it on something that should already be torqued way past 12Nm that way you know its working how you expect - there would be nothing worse than over torquing one of these bolts (or worse going past that point) and working out later you had the setting wrong/learning incorrectly as the length on these torque wrenches are often decent to apply a substantial amount of force easily without even realising when dealing in the 10-30Nm ranges.

Hi mate,my alloy tech engine having a leak at the front both side is it came the rocker cover?
@EMP_castlebravo2 жыл бұрын
Two real possibilities. Could be a leak in the rocker covers or worse could be the timing chain cover. Best bet is to take off the plastic engine covers and the intake pipe and use a torch to find the highest point where you can see oil. There’s also a small possibility that it could be coming through the O-rings around the sensors and actuators on the front of the motor but I’ve heard that’s quite rare. I’d also double check that the PCV system is flowing correctly. If you can, check both PCV tubes for oil residue. That could indicate a blocked PVC leading to pressure in the crankcase forcing oil out of places it isn’t supposed to.
@AllTerrainAction2 жыл бұрын
@@EMP_castlebravo do you have a guide that shows how to replace o-rings around the sensors and actuators on the front?

@EMP_castlebravo3 жыл бұрын
I usually use Penrite oil and also use an engine flush before I do oil changes. With that said, this engine is super clean because my mum attacked the rocker covers with some brake clean and an old toothbrush while I was at work. You should check Pt 1 to see what they were like originally.

Sir Where is the pcv in lumina LS V6 2007
@EMP_castlebravo3 жыл бұрын
If it’s using the same engine, the PCV will be on the drivers side rocker cover, right up the back of the motor. If you’re talking about a different version of the Alloytec, best advice is to figure out which tubes coming off the intake manifold are the PCV and follow them back to the rocker covers. You will usually need to remove the decorative covers from the engine so you have full access to all the hoses that run along the engine to provide vacuum pressure.

@@EMP_castlebravo they are oil seals so it should be the other way up, but hey I’m an old prick so maybe not
@EMP_castlebravo3 жыл бұрын
@@Gregdsilva915 Best guess is it’s a common part that’s been inverted since they usually require a special tool to install without tearing on the spark plug tubes. Could be possible that since they’re not immersed in oil like a diff seal the benefit of not being damaged during installation outweighs the detriment of having a slightly worse seal? It’s a question someone working at Holden 15 odd years ago might know the answer to.
