So Thom , where I sell my scrap metal (Eugene Oregon) the hair like wire is called num #2 , not num #1. What do you suggest , I do ? Keep up the good work. God bless y'all.

My yard only pays #2 copper $ for all bare, stranded wire with individual strands under 16ga, no matter how clean it is. I only get "bare bright" for very shiny stripped solid wire over 16ga. A darker, or tarnished looking bare solid wire, 16ga or larger, gets me #1 copper. Any copper motor windings, or coils from transformers, no matter what ga, goes as #2 because of varnish/shellac that is coating the wires.... Of course, not all yards pay or grade things the same, YMMV.. You could always ask other yards in your area what they buy it as.

You likely won't receive #1 prices anywhere as the video says. Take the #2 price and move on!

I was told that any copper that vaporizes is caught in the pollution control equipment and added back to the copper. Paying less for things like magnet wire or even fine strand copper welding wire is just a scam.
@strakill
@strakill Күн бұрын
Along with the other pollutions thus no longer a pure copper. Not to mention the extra work it takes to re-capture the copper from the system, copper that was already paid for that should have been smelted with the rest. That is why it is less. A lot of yards buyers will only pay #2 prices for the hair wire.

@@iScrapAppI believe it's the lead in the pencil not the pencil itself some people have actually been confused with that because if you go by how it's actually written the copper would have to be actually approximately a quarter inch thick so on that theory Romex cable would be number two 🤠

Not 100% sure if it changes what happens in a furnace, but briquetting machines are marketed for processors of copper. They're basically presses that mash bits of metals into solid cylinders.

@@onyxfire7511 this is true the oils in your skin, on your hands in this case, reacts with the different metals and create different odours. I worked much of my life as an industrial pipe fitter and a journeyman plumber I hated working with new clean copper pipe my hands would be green and smell like a barn yard.

scrap yards will find arguments regardless to make a profit. I only use them to off load recyclable trash. Dont trust your local scrap yard and if you go through the troubles of making ingots your likely not doing it to bring to a scrap yard anyways. :)
