With the mag insert removed an that part velcro'd closed, would this work as a bino kit bag?

The cord that is used to hold the shoulder straps and cummerbund attach is actually a line of braided Dacron.

A small Maritime CIRAS can actually fit a Medium plate and makes the carrier a lot more trim.

I really wish that someone could hunt down whoever was the designer of these carriers just to ask them "why?" Like there are so many weird features of these Eagle rigs like the CIRAS and RRV that seem baffling, but somebody must have wanted them.

Once upon a time I wanted one of these bad boys until I saw one (maritime ver.) a buddy of mine got during a MEU rotation and saw how ridiculously big they were. There was a time when the Corps allowed their Marines/Deploying Units to buy COTS body armor when they found out how bad the old school front opening Interceptor vests were performing during the early days of GWOT especially in Iraq. There were also a shitload of Eagle (They had a unique USMC plate carrier version with a different MOLLE configuration in the bib/admin area and the soft armor sewn in) and a few Diamondback (RIP) Plate Carriers floating around back then too. FYI these things also showed up on Praying Mantis Mercs in MGS4

@ I managed to snag one but I was an idiot and lost the side armor pouches and got rid of the cummerbund.. at this point in time it’s more of a collectible now since there are newer kit that are lighter and more high speed. If I ever happen upon another set of cummerbunds I’ll think about getting her back up as a spare plate carrier.

Great catch on the MGS4 kit. I would love a PS5 rerelease of MGS4. There’s so much cool kit in that game. I think that was a peak era of the “tactical” interest group. LaRue rifles in the MOH warfighter game, 5.11 clad dudes in Metal Gear, Blackhawk was still a big name in the industry, everything was 1000D cordura, what a cool era.

I picked up one from a local surplus store recently for around $80. It was missing the external cumberbund but I got an RBAV cumberbund off ebay. It's compatible with the quick release system and now I have molle on the cumberbund too.

Quick doffing was less meant for guys to dump the weight of their carriers and more meant for getting the carrier off after taking a hit near but not on the plate. It is to open the access to be able to provide medical care. That's where having the quick doffing capabilities becomes important

How did you end up hooking up the molle faceplate for the mag pouches? Is it just velcro?

It’s a whole placard there. The molle is just for tying the bungee retention.

@djay2_969 күн бұрын
Fun fact. Kalashnikov took the design, they made a few changes and released it as the Gruppa99 MRS plate carrier. The biggest change is probably the addition of a harness. And now it has become a standard issue kit with different armor addons on top - the Triada TKO (former Gruppa99, Kalashnikov subbrand) Strelok set. They have all sorts of analogues - CPC in particular, or their take on the AVS - A20 or 24 Titan, but unlike these, Strelok is officially issued and they are even implementing some tegris mods to it. Quite a leap from a 6B45, but it’s weird to me that they chose the PIG carrier in particular. Early models had an issue with the shoulder strap webbing getting loose and dropping the front platebag too low.

@EODFish well your going to be carrying weight on it for long time a thin strap is going to start cutting into and become uncomfortable especially if you have mags pistol and rifle med gear etc etc after a while it's going to be annoying I would cut a rigid molle pistol belt and sew for the waist strap 2 inch. plus increase carry capacity and versatility and upgrade the shoulder strap for something more comfortable if you ever had to wear stuff like this for a long time u find out comfort is very important and good weight distribution

Having owned this carrier I can honestly say it was one of the most uncomfortable plate carriers I’ve ever worn. First, the position of the should straps is very narrow on this pc and it rubbed my neck constantly. Second, there is no padding. Plate pads are a must. Third, I’m in complete agreement about the cummerbund as it has no flex whatsoever. I sold the Fcpc v5 and never looked back.

@EODFish Ok... SO, I need help. Here's my scenario, I work fulltime for the DTF, and spent a lot of time with the Fugitive TF, and TFO for a couple 3 letter agencies, so I spend a ton of time under armor. I'm now in serious need of a new plate carrier, and there's no superstore where you can go try all this on. I'm looking for the most comfortable carrier I can buy, not a tacticool load out monster, just comfortable, with a reasonably slick set up. I also run a battle belt, so I generally just run 3/4 mags on a placard, a small admin pouch, comms, extra flashlight, small pry tool, small dangler (situationally dependent), extra tourniquet, some misc. shit on front, then a bladder (just used for the FML long day) and a medical dangler on the back). Suggestions please? Just heard about this one, several people bragging on it, otherwise current front runners are the Crye SPC, DM MEPC, Agilite K-zero/ Sub zero, Javlin A-jac, or maybe a Shaw ARC 2 (that's going to be tough to swallow).

how braindead do you have to be to not comprehend ALMOST NOBODY USES SOFT ARMOR BACKERS WITH ESAPI ANYMORE lmao maybe your shit unit issued them in 07 but that hasn’t been the standard for over a decade. it’s just a plate for the front and back. that’s it. that is the esapi plate.

This was a very good carrier. It added some functionality, while slimming slightly in comparison to the BALCS carrier King at the time, the Eagle CIRAS. I wanted one, but it didn't really do anything better than my CIRAS, so I couldn't justify it. I'm not, nor have I ever been, a placard user. I either run/ran my CIRAS with mags, medical and water attached, or a plate carrier and chest rig or LBV setup. In my opinion, that plate carrier is great because it had what we had been using up to that day, but made an attempt at future-proofing itself in that it was designed as a BALCS carrier, that could be run as just a simple plate carrier and be run with placards, if the user's needs changed, without having to buy another armor system. Sure, it will be bulkier than everything in vogue today, what with its extra thick cumberbund and 1000d cordura, but I would submit that it is still 100% serviceable. BTW, I like the fact that it has two built-in admin/map pouches. MOLLE admin pouches around that time went from a basic pocket with a flap to gusseted and sometimes even compartmentalized units that were thicker than a magazine. While not perfect by any stretch, Velocity Systems/Mayflower put some thought into it,as opposed to what the industry typically throws at us. Good overview! I look forward to the rest of the series.
