I watched every pitch of this game. When Schmidt came up in the 10th I knew he was going to hit a home run. Biggest Cubs killer in history. I hated him.

"THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT!".....This history is a nice effort and fun to view but oversimplifies the history of baseball celebrations. For one thing it leaves out one of the wildest celebrations in MLB history following Bobby Thompson's home run to beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in a one game playoff in 1951. Known as the "The shot heard 'round the world" it's famous in part because of radio announcer Russ Hodges repeatedly screaming over and over "The Giants Win The Pennant!!!". It is perhaps the most famous moment in MLB broadcast history. Bobby Thompson was jumping up and down and waving his arms in wild celebration while circling the bases and the Giants were pouring onto the field running all over like mad. Then the FANS poured on to the field to go crazy. And that leads to another important bit of history, namely, fans going wild and pouring on to a ballfield to celebrate. That was common in the first 100 years of MLB history. And then there's the history of ballplayers interacting with fans. Babe Ruth wasn't the only player who commonly tipped his hat after a home run or engaged in verbal exchanges with fans in the stands. And of course there were many instances of ballplayers going INTO the stands to personally take umbrage with fans who were riding them with criticism or insults. The national culture was very different back then and so were the ways in which players and fans expressed their emotions and interacted with each other. That might not be related to celebrating per se but it's relevant to how players and fans used to behave and that's what this video history is really about. In reality, there were behaviors that were acceptable in the past that aren't acceptable today and vice versa. Baseball players have always displayed their emotions more than players in any other sport. While the changing times have made some displays of emotion unacceptable the players and the fans have always found new ways to express their emotions. And let us hope that remains true in the future.

The real question is who plays a 4 game series it’s usually 3-5 or 7

It still surprises me how very seriously a game is taken. Indeed , for many people it’s sometimes a matter of life or death 😮…. When Cubs fan Steve Bartman made the guffaw against his hometown team that year everyone wanted to destroy him or even worse. Buckner made a bad play and it’s the only reason the Red Sox lost the series. Moore committed suicide. I really believe if that Asian pitcher that blew those two games versus the Yankees that year from the Diamondbacks if Arizona loses that series? It would have been big time trouble for that young man…. I love the way Dennis Eckersley reacted after giving up the devastating home run to Gibson in the 1988 series as he in good humor would laugh about it and give Gibson credit for the great hit….. It’s the way it should always be… I mean after all it is only a game 😮…..

The 86' series somehow seems like an "upset" of sorts the way the Mets cam back from the brink of death. The truth is they were a much better team than the Red Sox. They should have won that series, but were outplayed for the most part. It reminds me of when the Mets played the Orioles in 69'. The Mets had no business winning that series.

My dad was in a brawl once in a game . It was a close play at the plate and the runner plowed into the catcher next thing u know bodies everywhere. I can still see my dad in the middle looking like Bart Simpson when Homer strangles him. I was like 6 me and my bro were pinching yes I mean pinching 🤏 dudes on the other team through the fence during the brawl as it took place near the back catch fence 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Good old early 90s shit lol
