Julmust was developed as a non-alcoholic alternativ to the strong julöl (christmas beer). Julmust have malt as one of it's ingredients to make it a little beer-like. Julmust have been around for 114 years since it was introduced in 1910 (but then under a different name). The creator Harry Roberts, was a teetotaller and wanted to create replacements for the commonly used alcoholic beverages in Sweden so Julmust was to replace the dark Christmas beer that is common during Christmas, he also created Champis that is an alternative to Champagne and another brewer, Anders Lindahl, created a similar alternative to Champagne called Pommac. All 3 of these are still around and while Champis and Pommac is not as popular as Julmust they are readily available at most stores (quite common among fast food sandwich places for some reason). The popularity of Julmust in particular (even though it is only sold during a limited time it makes out as 5% of the total soda sales for the whole year) have made many smaller breweries to create very special versions so one can find tons of variants, from versions that are very similar to ale all the way up to bland sodas.

The origin is more recent, it used to be Julöl - Christmas beer - but had to be changed to a non-alcoholic beverage due to trade laws etc. Thats why it's carbonated like a soda, but isn't technically a straight-up soda and instead rather related to beers and similar beverages.

Currently drinking julmust and eating a sandwich while watching this xD. One thing - Something this guy fails to mention is that Julmust isn't just available during the winter holidays. It's also sold during Easter under the name Påskmust. It's exactly the same drink, the only difference is the name and the label. It's funny that you mention the "Holidays are coming" Coke advert. If anyone knows this for sure they are free to correct me, of course, but I'm like 70-80% sure they've stopped broadcasting it here in Sweden. Granted, I no longer own a TV and watch all my stuff on the computer, but I distinctly remember seeing it when I was a kid. Later on when I was like 25 (about 10 years ago) however, I never remember seeing it. Edit: One last edit - I looked into the 100+ years claim. It's true. The drink was introduced in the early 1900s as Christmas Beer, but in 1922 it changed it's name to the current Julmust. The name itself is a compound word consisting of Jul (Christmas) and Must (exists as an English word too, but synonyms include: Juice, Cider).

The Swedish drink Jul must should be drunk in a glass bottle of 33 cl and it should preferably be from Apotekarens Bryggeri. The julmust must have a temperature of 8 degrees C to make itself at its best! Perfect drink for the Swedish Christmas table and perfect for drinks 8 cl vodka and Julmust!🎅🤶🧑🎄
