Hi David: So at the end of the fishing day, after catching loads of perch on what i call a Golden Cormorant, looked in my fly box and saw one of these i had tied a good while back, and so i thought, let's just give this a go, trolling back across the lake in i bit of breeze. Paddling a canoe actually, and while focusing on the wind, noticed my rod bent back and throbbing like crazy. Nice rainbow took it in good. Well, almost to shore now, put it in again and bam! again, another rainbow. They hadn't been taking anything all morning. So now i know it really works, like you said. Thank you sir! Randy c

Hi Dave, another great video, please keep them coming! Also, many thanks for your quick turnaround for my recent order and the 'wee freebie'. That Jaxon mono looks great stuff and really good value. Looking forward to using that marabou, too. I've been fly tying for over 40 years and that is the best I've ever seen. Top stuff and a top bloke!

Great video. Lubos Roza just recently tied that fly in a video for Fulling Mill. He says that his friend came up with the pattern. You’re probably correct that Martin is the originator of it. I’ve been meaning give it a try.

I have made lots of similar flies to your carlsberg, usually light olive or black on size 22 to 18 but without the tail. Must be us port boys with similar ideas 😜🤣 You got any good supplies of size 22 and even smaller hooks? I can’t find any at all unless I spend a fortune on postage which my tightarse Scotsman ways keep stopping me from doing! Also yeah getting aero wing this last year or so has been super difficult.

@@TheDavedownie I saw some Japanese hooks that looked really good with a larger eye but can’t remember what they were called. They went down to ridiculous sizes which is often the only way to catch while stocky bashing sometimes I find. Well it gets me some strange looks a lot of the time when people ask wtf I am catching on and I show them things you need magnifying glasses to see 😜

@TheDavedownie
@TheDavedownie 4 ай бұрын
Hi Matey, I use whatever tungstens I have, if they are slotted I will hold them up and put turns of thread behind the bead to keep it in th eright place if that makes sense. But normal countersunk generally works better.

Loved the video and the simplicity of your approach. I tie some very similar patterns. Quick question. On your #1 fly (pheasant tail) you said that you use UV chocolate dubbing. I have only been able to find chocolate brown or UV brown. Where do you find UV chocolate (company, website)? Would UV Brown work as well?

Great pattern no need for a million bells and whistles forgive my ignorance as I’ve never used squirrel on dry flies but I would assume the squirrel is just there for the leggy profile and the cdc is the main floating element

HI there thanks for watching and yes the squirrel is there for exctly that leggy buggy ness, profile is more important, tight lines Dave

Some cracking patterns there Dave, just a question on tying your Pheasant Tail, is there a reason you prefer to tie on curved hooks? I’d seen videos of John Tyzack tying them on curved hooks and always wondered what the reasoning behind it was but I have to agree, a top nymph pattern 👍🏻
@TheDavedownie
@TheDavedownie 5 ай бұрын
I like the shape of it on the curved hook to be honest and always have as the natural nymph on the way up will be moving in a swaying way as it climbs to the surface if that make sense, cheers for watching and tighty lines
