Sounds like big pharma has totally taken over the entire medical establishment. In the 1800's the Rockefeller medical mafia chose the germ theory over the terrain theory as they can make money off it and then they took over the teachings of our modern medicine. Pseudoscience in psychiatry is the same for modern medicine these days. Take for example viruses. So far no virologist has taken an ISOLATED, PURIFIED virus particle and proved it can cause a disease. Why ? Because they can't as viruses are exosomes. What virologists do it take tissue, starve it, poison it and introduce the 'virus' (not purified or isolated) into the tissue and say, look the tissue has degraded and it must be the virus. Check out this book by Dr Thomas Cowan titled 'The Truth About Contagion: Exploring Theories of How Disease Spreads'. Love your work Dr Zwig.

Medication is often used in place of talk therapy, which I don’t like, big meds have their place. Therapy alone doesn’t get diagnoses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder under control, though in some cases, it can make managing easier to use this in addition to medication. Also, one therapy appointment is not going to fix a diagnosis where therapy is more effective. Someone with depression and/or anxiety can’t just stop working for months, if not head, while healing. That is a good way to end up homeless and acquire more mental health damage. So short term medication is helpful, until someone has done enough healing where they don’t need it anymore. As for masking, I choose to mask around the majority of people. That’s because my symptoms impact more than me. I have a trauma disorder. People don’t like being around someone super vigilant and untrusting. They don’t like when someone brings up all the ways their fun plans together might go wrong, or when someone goes into survival mode over something actually benign. I don’t blame them. So I try to keep my dysfunction to myself around others. I could care less about being judged. I don’t want to give legit reasons for people to be uncomfortable around me. It also feels good. I get to experience life, despite my diagnosis. It gives me a chance to feel like myself, and not a diagnosis. People have a tendency to define others heavily by what condition they have. I get enough of that with my autoimmune disease, which I can’t keep hidden since I often have to explain why I’m breaking plans or that I’m not contagious if I get sick in public. I have people who know my mental health diagnoses and if I ever feel the need, I can come to them, when it’s convenient for both of us. But I’m honestly not big on talking about it. I do that enough in therapy and a professional has better advise than someone who’d never even heard of CPTSD until I told them I have it. A discomfort with vulnerability is often part of my diagnosis so talking about it freely, no matter what is going on or how emotionally charged I am, doesn’t help me. But with therapy, I have a chance to prepare for that discomfort, and I know it’s like PT, where the pain means you are healing.

Wow my problems aren’t illnesses? This is radical and just changed my life. Thank you doc. I go through my life thinking I’m damaged and can’t ever be fixed but you teach that this is a lie and I love it because I know it to be true. Do you work 1 on1 with people these days?
