Great video, Alison! BTW: I learned to play the violin because, unlike the viola and cello, the violin - along with all my other instruments - plays in the treble clef; a music language I already know.

I began learning to play the violin today. It's going to be a challenge. I play guitar, banjo, and harmonica. But I am self-taught, and I do not know how to read music. I only learned tablature so far. But there's something about the violin that draws me to it. I'm a new subscriber.

I passed (just) my grade 1 violin exam in 1980 and haven't picked up a violin since.. Is it too late to go back?

Absolutely not! The beauty of the violin (any instrument actually) is that it is not age related! Get back on it!

You are holding the violin at the upper bout. Is that how you want us to hold it at this point?

Yes - it doesnt matter so much at this point - only that you hold the violin so it doesnt fall.
