Agree completely. My gear is the same LBE I used for the majority of my time as an infantryman, because everything is in the same spot I've always put it in, and I can find things in the dark and under pressure. My ruck is a large ALICE, packed the same way I've always packed it. My cammies are BDUs, the same as I was issued, and preferred before we switched to the stupid ACUs. My rifle is a clone of the M-4 I carried from about 1997 to 2008. (the 82nd got M-4s earlier than most of the Army, and I was a squad leader at that time in 1997 when they were startingto issue them, 2/504 PIR).

You can make a lot of magic happen with PSA w/ holosun and a condor rig full of mags. I would almost prefer we start there, the only things i will recommend starting big with is footware and packs but surplus is still more than fine. I have some nice stuff and cheaper stuff. Some of the cheaper stuff is better or just my preference. Somethings i use the cheaper version because i will wreck it training and getting cheaper stuff permits more training.

I put a tac star side saddle on a 590 today, comments told me it was a poor choice. I'll be lucky if I survive 3 firefights. I don't want to get in firefights. I want to be left alone.

What would get people killed is not the gear. It's fat middle aged untrained guys thinking that LARPing as "militia" makes them real soldiers. The only sure way to survive a fire fight is not to get in one.
